Dinosaur turtle[2] was a giant non-sentient reptilian creature, which was known to be aggressive. When it attacked the Mandalorians, one of whom it ate, Din Djarin arrived in his N-1 starfighter and fired torpedoes into the creature's side, killing it.[1]
The dinosaur turtle was quadrupedal and had a long tail. Its skin was all but impervious to blaster fire. Its shell was also strong against the explosion of thermal detonator. It dwelled underwater but could also operate on land.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- "Specifically, what was it like fighting a big space alligator in The Mandalorian‘s season three premiere?"
"Very strange, because it wasn't there when we were shooting it. That's the magic of these geniuses.[…] There was not much to actually fight when we were making it. Then they put it all in the special effects afterwards and it's incredible. It looks unbelievable. We were just having to pretend there was a big scary monster, which you do a lot when you're a kid. So wasn't that bad." - ―An interviewer and Emily Swallow
The dinosaur turtle first appeared in "Chapter 17: The Apostate," the first episode of The Mandalorian season three,[1] which was released on March 1, 2023.[4] It was identified in the episode's audio description.[2] Concept art of the dinosaur turtle was created by Christian Alzmann.[5] Emily Swallow, the actress who played the Armorer, and the other Mandalorian actors pretended to fight a large monster. According to Swallow, special effects were added for the creature after filming.[3]
