KOF Maximum Impact (KOFケーオーエフ マキシマムインパクト) is a 3D spin-off series based on The King of Fighters series. It covers the events found in KOF Maximum Impact, KOF Maximum Impact 2 and KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A" (a non-canonical chapter).

Overview[]

KOF Maximum Impact is the spin-off series of The King of Fighters series. Although it was marketed as a spin-off, the KOF Maximum Impact series is actually intended as an alternate continuation of both the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting series, while using elements from The King of Fighters series. The producer of the series, Falcoon, stated that the Maximum Impact games are in a different canon from the mainline series of KOF games.

Story[]

KOF: Maximum Impact[]

Addes was the most powerful gang in South Town. Its leader, a man known only as Fate, was considered a modern-day Robin Hood to the poor and downtrodden. He himself had adopted two twin brothers, Alba and Soiree Meira, and trained them to be successors to his legacy.

Six months before the in-game events, Fate is killed by Duke, the leader of the up-and-coming Mephistopheles gang. Duke then proceeds to exploit the poor to serve his own twisted thirst for power.

In the present day, the Mephistopheles Fighting Tournament is beginning, with the venue being all of Southtown. The participants (minus the Meira Brothers and Lien) believe that the tournament is being sponsored by a charity organization known as the Metatron Foundation, but they soon learn that its true sponsor is the Mephistopheles gang. Alba, Soiree and Lien are contacted directly by Hyena, so they know Metatron has nothing to do with this.

KOF: Maximum Impact 2[]

The first THE KING OF FIGHTERS, held in the city of South Town — Many contended that this illegal fighting tournament was held by the gangland syndicate "Mephistopheles" to achieve the annihilation of their rivals and procure some operating capital. But after its "King," Duke, suffered defeat at the hands of Alba Meira in the finals, he and his organization vanished from Southtown. Meanwhile, the media, firmly under Duke's thumb, grew a new backbone and released a fusillade of sensational exposés — based on information from confidential sources (naturally) — regarding their former oppressors. In spite of this new torrent of "information", however, almost no one knew that an even larger entity had been pulling Mephistopheles' puppet strings.

ADDES — The truth behind this name was only known throughout the dark recesses of the underworld. And Mephistopheles, the force that swept over and completely subdued Southtown with such overwhelming force? Just one of Addes' subsidiaries, one of its countless tentacles. When and who created it? Where was its headquarters? How far was its reach? — No one really had an inkling as to what this organization truly entailed.

And now... Still yet another of Addes' long black tentacles had sliced down the veil with its sinister scythes of the grim reaper to reveal a new battle royale.

The invitations in white envelopes will soon reach the world's mightiest, who will surely find the call of the reaper irresistible.

As stated in Alba Meira's private novel by Akihiko Ureshino on the official KOF Maximum Impact 2 site which serves as an official follow up to the story of KOF Maximum Impact 2, Alba was in fact the one who defeated Jivatma and Luise. Soiree was kidnapped as a result of that and Alba has not seen him since then. And in the credits ending, Luise is seen waiting for him, so it can be assumed that Alba and Luise are together since the end of the second tournament.

Trivia[]

  • According to Falcoon, he had originally had stories for the sub-series up to Maximum Impact 6.[1]
  • Unlike the mainline series, KOF: Maximum Impact uses 1-vs-1 gameplay.
    • However, the system is used only in the canonical games. In KOF MIRA, the system is 3-vs-3 gameplay, although the series don't use the Team system.
