Roadmap

Stage 1: Getting the Online Trophy

The first stage should be to get the game's only online trophy out of the way. The Bronze Online Victor trophy requires just two players and takes about 15 minutes to complete. Do not worry about working toward the major trophies here as online statistics are not saved to your record. The player count for this game is so small that you will absolutely need to find a boost partner, and may even need to find the means to self-boost it by acquiring a second console.

Stage 2: Miscellaneous Trophies (Optional)

Note: You can skip this stage and move directly to Stage 3 if you do not wish to earn Bronze Travelling Boomstick early by playing against the AI. If you only want to play with two controllers, you can easily clean this trophy up at the end of Stage 3.

During this stage, you will knock out most of the miscellaneous trophies the game has to offer. These can be done in just one or two matches of World Tour mode. Your main goal here is to hit a six in both the Melbourne and Delhi grounds so that you can more quickly unlock Bronze Travelling Boomstick. These grounds can be randomly selected in World Tour mode, but must be unlocked for use if playing Versus mode.

While you are working on your sixes, you can also try to earn 100 runs with the same player for Silver Centurion, and hit six sixes in the same game for Bronze Knock-Out. You may also earn Bronze Smashing! here by hitting 10 fours into the Big Ant board in front of your batter, but if not, it is essentially unmissable during the next step.

Stage 3: The Main Grind: Wickets, Fielders, and Runs

The final stage is by far the longest, but can be greatly sped up with the use of a second controller in the Versus mode. If you do not have or do not wish to use a second controller, see General Gameplay Information and Single Player Strategies for ways to accumulate statistics against the AI. This will, of course, take significantly longer, but is not especially difficult.

To add a second controller to a Versus match, navigate to the team selection screen. Next, ensure the controller is turned on and then press Square to add it to the game. Have it select a team and you will be ready to start the match.

Important: Statistics accumulated with your second controller are not saved. Only score and take wickets with your primary.

Once you've decided on an approach, you will work on the following three grinds:
Reference each trophy for the best method available to accumulate these statistics.

If you are starting from 0 in all three categories, the best format to play is Five5. This five-over format allows you to make balanced progress in all three grinds. Restart the match until your primary controller is batting first, then try to score around 100 runs while knocking over at least 1 fielder. When you are bowling, take all 10 wickets and you will be exactly 1/100th done with each of the three grinds.

It's possible that you may end up with slightly lopsided totals if you end up falling behind on runs or wickets. If this happens, there are other modes available that will help you catch up.

If you need to catch up on runs, select ODI. This 50-over format will allow you to get over 1200 runs per match as long as you restart until your primary controller bats first, but only allows you to take 10 wickets when fielding. If you opted to skip Stage 2 of the roadmap, playing this format will allow you to easily earn Silver Centurion, though it is possible to earn it in Indoor Match with a good run rate.

If you are behind on wickets, select Indoor Match. This 8-over format will allow you to take up to 48 wickets in a single game, but you will only be able to score around 200 runs. It does not matter which side bats first in this format.

General Gameplay Information and Single Player Strategies

General Gameplay Information

TableTop Cricket has a few key differences from a typical simulation-oriented video game:
  • There is no running between wickets. Instead, you earn runs based on where the ball lands on the pitch. A ball that comes to rest in the inner field is a dot ball, then the value gradually increases as you get closer to the boundary with 3 runs being awarded for a ball that lands just inside the pitch. Boundaries remain unchanged, though sixes always fly outside of the grounds with no chance for the fielding team to catch the ball.
  • Even though there isn't any actual running, scoring a 1 or 3 will still rotate the strike during an over.
  • You cannot modify your batting order, though you do have control over your bowler selection at the beginning of each over.
  • There are no pitch conditions to be aware of as each ground plays identically with no weather effects.
  • Fielders have very limited movement while the ball is rolling and can only make one short step left or right with Left Stick. If the ball is hit slowly and lands within the catch radius of the fielder, they will teleport to it and an out will be recorded. Each fielder has a slightly different catch radius based on their skill ratings.

Single Player Strategies

While you can easily complete this list with two controllers, there are some useful tricks available for players who would like to try the World Tour mode, or simply to play against the computer in Versus mode.

Batting

  • Keep it simple! There are many types of swings and footwork modifiers available in this game, but there's no need to use anything other than a slight aiming of Right Stick: Up. If you are good with your timing, this will always be at least a four. You can try Right Stick: Left or Right Stick: Right if you notice the opponent has very few fielders on either side of the oval, but there is no need to complicate things more than that.
  • Most shots will go for four in this game. The easiest way to get a six is to wait for a short delivery - you will be able to see the length of the delivery before the bowler begins his run-up. When you see a delivery aimed short, get ready to push Right Stick: Up as soon as it bounces, and you should be able to get a six. Unless you have already finished Silver Hammer or need a trophy specifically related to hitting sixes it is actually more useful to stick with fours, however, as doing so gives you the opportunity to knock over fielders at the same time.

Bowling

  • When controlling a pace bowler, try using a yorker-length delivery aimed at the opponent's feet.
  • When controlling a spin bowler, try a short length delivery aimed leg side and spinning back toward the wicket (Right Stick: Up followed by Right Stick: Down & Left).
  • If you happen to bowl out a batter, perform that exact same delivery on the next batsman. This will often, but not always, result in a second wicket.
  • The game is designed to concede lots of runs, so don't get too discouraged. Instead of trying to limit run rate, favour a risk-reward approach that will enable you to take wickets and end the innings sooner.

Fielding

  • At the start of each over, you can change the positions of your fielders by pressing Triangle. Position all of them in front of the batter, and do not change this for the entire game. The AI will always bat forward so there is no need for fielders to be in the slips or at any other backward position.
  • It is not especially important where exactly you place them, but put your worst fielders (the ones with the smallest circle under their feet) closer to the wickets - at close range, you are generally not going to get a catch or be able to move into position anyway, and it is more about blocking the ball from moving forward. Having your best fielders at a middle or far distance gives them a better chance to move into position for a catch.

The Big Ant Board is always directly in front of you when batting. It is a sheet of metal with the developer's logo on it. Hitting the board requires a shot that rolls into or under it for 4 runs - sixes in this game always go over the top of the stadium and will not hit the board. If you are using the run scoring method described in Gold The Running Man! this will come naturally. Just hit your shots forward with Right Stick: Up and you will get this quite early into your grind.

You can check your progress toward this trophy at any time from the main menu by navigating to Hall of Fame and looking at General Statistics.

Maiden Overs occur when you bowl an entire over without conceding any runs or extras. You are guaranteed to get this while doing your two-controller grind for Silver Worn Out, as the second controller will not be swinging the bat, and therefore will not be able to score any runs.

If you really want to try this vs. the AI, play as a team with good bowlers like South Africa, and play against a 1-star team like Canada. Aim a full-length ball at the heels of the batter and they will usually either not swing or make poor contact. If you can make it through six deliveries without conceding a run, the trophy will pop.

To earn this trophy, you must win a single online game. The match must be played to completion, so ensure that you do not have the second player quit early.

While the online is still functional as of June 2024, it is obviously completely dead, and it is unlikely you will find a boosting partner either. Plan to self-boost this if at all possible. Just two consoles are required.

Online trophies do not count toward your grinding statistics, so do not bother using your time online to work toward your cumulative wickets or runs scored. Just get the win and get out.

You have two options to play at the remaining stadiums: accumulate the required runs during your two controller grind, then play games in the stadiums as they unlock, or play World Tour mode.

World Tour mode can only be played against the AI, but offers the fastest opportunity to finish this trophy. Select a strong team like South Africa or England and start the mode. You will have the option of playing three different one-star teams. Pick whichever you like and start the match. The ground chosen is completely random and the name is not provided in-game - use the screenshots above to determine where you are playing, with a particular emphasis on playing in Melbourne. If you get placed on a ground, you've already hit a six in, just back out and start the match again and you will be placed somewhere new.

Now you just need to hit a 6 off the AI. Wait for them to bowl a short length delivery (the length is indicated prior to the bowler's run up) and get ready to hit the ball off the bounce with Right Stick: Up. If timed correctly this will almost always result in a six. Be sure to finish each match after scoring the six, or else your progress will not be saved.

If you prefer to exclusively stick to two controllers, just use the method described in Gold The Running Man! but be sure to switch to each stadium as it becomes available.

You also have the option of customising the background of the arena. You are not required to hit sixes on each of the different backgrounds for the trophy.

There is no way to check your progress towards this trophy, but with only three grounds available, it should be easy to keep track of manually.

A century occurs when a batsman manages 100 runs in one match. Reaching 50 runs is labelled a half-century and will unlock Bronze The Crusher.

Use the tips described in Gold The Running Man! to accumulate runs with a single batsman. It is certainly possible to achieve this trophy during an 8-over Indoor Match game - your opening batsman will need a run rate of about 25 during his 4 overs - but if you are struggling to hit the required run rate you can play an ODI match instead. Restart until your primary controller is batting first, and you will then have up to 50 overs (depending on format selected) to reach the total.

This is actually rather difficult to achieve vs. the AI due to how easy it is to get out in this game. It is strongly advised to use two controllers to unlock this trophy.
Hammer
Knock 100 fielders over

Silver
There are two ways to knock fielders over in TableTop Cricket:
  1. Hit the ball directly back to the bowler. This will always result in a knockdown, even if the ball is hit very lightly.
  2. Hit the ball into any other fielder. For this to be a knockdown it must be hit well, with good pace. A lightly hit ball colliding with a fielder will result in a wicket instead of a knockdown.

You will always be able to tell when you've knocked a fielder over as the ball's momentum will immediately stop and the fielder will have a brief animation where they stumble backwards.

Generally it is not worth the risk of fielders catching you out, and instead you will want to focus on knocking over the bowler. Try to aim with Right Stick toward the bowler. If you are self-boosting, make sure the bowler delivers at full-length as a short ball is more likely to go for six - it is impossible to knock over a player with a six. It's not possible to make contact 100% of the time but it will happen often enough that, if you are using the runs method described in Gold The Running Man!, you will definitely knock over 100 fielders before finishing your 10,000 runs. Averaging it out you need just one knockdown for every 100 runs scored.

Off The Table

Sixes occur when the ball is hit, then goes past the boundary without bouncing. Sixes are much rarer than fours in TableTop Cricket, but it's still easy to obtain this trophy.

The best way to get it is to follow the two-controller method described in Gold The Running Man!, but be sure to use short deliveries with your second controller until you get this trophy. The default length is fine and there's no need to adjust it. On short deliveries you can pretty easily hit the ball off the bounce for six. Full-length deliveries, by comparison, are hard to hit for six as they require less intuitive timing due to how quickly the ball moves through the air.

If you are playing single-player, the same strategy applies but you will need to wait for the AI to decide to bowl a short delivery. You will be able to see the length of their delivery before they actually bowl - when you see a shorter length, get ready to try to hit for six.

You do not have to hit the sixes with the same player.
Worn Out

Taking 1000 wickets is one of the major grinds in TableTop Cricket. The game does not feature stumping or run outs, meaning the only ways to record an out are via leg before wicket (LBW), catches, and being bowled out.

The best way to get wickets is simply to play with a second controllerWhile your second controller is batting, have them remain idle while your primary controller attempts a full-length delivery directly aimed at the stumps. Make sure that you do not use any spin on the ball as you want it to go straight into the stumps for a wicket. Pace bowlers are generally a little easier to hit the stumps with but it will take a little bit of practise to hit the target consistently.

If you do not want to use a second controller, use the tips provided in General Gameplay Information and Single Player Strategies. Wickets will come much more slowly against the AI but it is still an achievable task with the right strategies and playing against the weaker teams.

The best format for wicket-taking is Indoor Match. The other formats available allow you to take just 10 wickets per match. Meanwhile Indoor Match features a guaranteed 8 overs regardless of who bats first, where you can potentially take up to 48 wickets if you manage one on every delivery. A more realistic target is somewhere between 25 and 35, with the latter requiring a bit of practise and getting a feel for where you need to place your deliveries to hit the stumps.

You can check your wicket total at any time from the main menu by going to Hall of Fame and viewing the General Statistics.

As you get more experienced at taking wickets you should be able to get Bronze Fivefer in Indoor Match. Unlike the other modes, each bowler gets just one over to work with, meaning you need to take 5 wickets in 6 deliveries. This sounds a bit harder than it is when factoring in that the batter will offer absolutely no resistance. If you are struggling with getting that many wickets in so few deliveries, consider playing one of the other modes. Pick the same bowler for the 1st and 3rd overs and you will only need a more manageable 5 wickets on 12 deliveries instead.
The Running Man!
Score 10,000 runs

10,000 runs sounds like a sizeable haul, but this game tends to be quite high scoring and doubly so if you make use of a second controller. If you aren't using two controllers, use the tips provided in General Gameplay Information and Single Player Strategies, then play as a strong team like South Africa against a weak team like Canada. You will still be able to score runs fairly easily, but there will be much higher risk of getting out. In particular, the ODI format is mostly pointless as there is almost no way you will get through the full 50 overs when facing the AI.

The first step in getting runs is ensuring your primary controller is batting first (unless playing Indoor Match). If you bat second in the other modes, you will only need to chase your second controller's score of zero meaning the game will end after scoring a single run. There's no coin flip in TableTop Cricket, so just keep restarting the game until you get to bat.

Next, press Triangle with your second controller to bring up the fielding settings. Put all fielders behind the batsman. This setting will need to be re-applied for each match, but will remain in place across overs. With the fielders behind you almost every ball hit forward will result in a boundary or knocking down the bowler for progress towards Silver Hammer. The only exceptions are balls hit straight into the non-striker's wicket, which result in zero runs.

Now have your second controller prepare a delivery. You can experiment to see what is most comfortable for you to hit here but generally a yorker length ball aimed at the stumps is perfectly acceptable as long as you don't add pace to it with R2 or spin with Right Stick. You have ample time after confirming the delivery to prepare to bat it, so it should only take a game or two to get comfortable.

With the primary controller, push Right Stick: Up as the ball comes close to you and it should go out for a boundary. Occasionally, angle your Right Stick towards the bowler and try to hit them to make progress on your fielders knocked over. Remember that you need to knock over just 1 fielder for every 100 runs scored, so there is no need to exclusively farm this. Once every three or four overs is perfectly fine, the rest of the time try to avoid hitting the bowler so that you can get your boundaries.

If you still need sixes for Bronze Travelling Boomstick or Bronze Knock-Out, bowl a shorter length and have the batter hit it off the bounce.

The best format for scoring runs is ODI. Restart until your primary controller is batting first, then begin farming using the above method. You'll have 50 overs to work with, meaning you can easily get north of 1200 runs per match once you get comfortable with the method. When the second controller gets to bat, just bowl them out quickly to end the match.

You can check your runs total at any time from the main menu by going to Hall of Fame and viewing the General Statistics.
