Global IP block exempt for Zaxxon0

My IP falls under the T-Mobile IPv6 range, which is a very problematic range that is globally blocked for abuse. I would like to request a global IP block exemption just to avoid any inconveniences. Thanks. --Zaxxon0 (talk) 01:39, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

@Zaxxon0 the TMO block should be anon-only. If you are getting a hard block please send us the details. — xaosflux Talk 01:45, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Es.Wiki seems to be one (if not the only) the wikis I cannot edit under this IP (oddly I was able to make several edits on that wiki a few months ago). The range block also does not allow me to create new accounts on other wikimedia sites I never created an account on. Zaxxon0 (talk) 04:09, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Please contact us at Special:Contact/stewards with details of your request. Mention that you have a request open at SRGP. When you get the automated email back, reply with: a screenshot of the block message you are getting and what your public IP address is. — xaosflux Talk 14:31, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
@Zaxxon0: You are likely facing es:Special:BlockList/2607:fb90::/32, since 2607:fb91/32 is anon only on eswiki. Global exemptions can't assist you with this. -- Amanda (she/her) 03:14, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Asheiou

I frequently travel, including to countries with restricted access to the Internet, so I use an open proxy in those countries in order to bypass those local restrictions. Several of the countries I travel to routinely work to compromise the security and openness of the Internet. I've received IP block exemption on en-wiki but there are other Wikimedia projects I contribute to. I have a history of constructive edits on en-wiki, fr-wiki, en-wikinews, and en-commons. For these reasons, I'm requesting global IP block exemption for as long as possible. I have 2FA on my account which should help to limit the potential risks of this account being compromised. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. For faster responses, mention me! Cheers. > Asheiou (they/them • talk) 15:58, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello! I am a former global rollbacker (had my access removed due to prolonged inactivity), and wikidata admin. I am currently active again in cross-wiki counter-vandalism and would like to apply to be given global rollback access again. Although not strictly required by the policy I have enabled 2FA. Abusefilter helper for Julius 12345

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 9 April 2024 16:52 UTC

Dear Wikipedists, I request the abusefilter helper permissions. I request permissions because I would like access to private abusefilters and logs. I am experienced Meta-Wiki user and a member of Small Wiki monitoring team. I have also experience in Finnish Wikipedia. I have total of 2240 Wiki edits. I would use this permissions responsibly as I have done so far in Meta-Wiki. --Julius 12345 (talk) 16:52, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

  • Question Question: why do you want to access private abuse filters, what do you need it for? --Johannnes89 (talk) 16:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Strong oppose No demonstrated AbuseFilter involvement in any content project, and very little explanation in their request reasoning of what purpose this is going to serve. From fiwiki's AF setup, it seems a bit harder to get experience in there with the public filters (given that there is no false positive page and all reports of false positives are made direct to administrators), and abusefilter-view-private/abusefilter-view-log-private are restricted to sysops only, but I also don't see any general experience with suggested edits to the AF syntax on fiwiki, nor any specific need for the private filters. I don't even really expect that much involvement with them, just something to demonstrate that the user has some actual need for this, and that the user can be trusted. To the user themselves, please note this isn't primarily an anti-vandalism tool. The private filters, depending on which they are, can contain information that has to be held in the strictest confidence, and thus it is beneficial to all projects to ensure that the list of those with access to private filters is as small as possible, and especially so for the list of people who have access to every filter on every project in the movement, which is what the permission you're requesting would give. EggRoll97 (talk) 06:24, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
I agree with your second point, but AFH can also be used to aid in anti-vandalism. I'm waiting for a reply to Johannes' question personally. Leaderboard (talk) 07:54, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Fair, though still not necessarily a strong use case for anti-vandalism either, given that they are only significantly active on one content project (and maybe Meta?). EggRoll97 (talk) 14:02, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose Low edit count; per Eggroll97. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 23:36, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose. If you were an admin or work with abuse filters in your home wiki and have advanced knowledge of regular expressions, then maybe I would support, but because of that combined with the low cross-wiki edit count, I don't think I can support your request. As EggRoll97 pointed out, this role allows you to see the logs of some private abuse filters which may contain sensitive information such as phone numbers and email addresses, and inappropriate disclosures of private filters intended to stop long-term vandals can allow such vandals to potentially evade the filters they're targeting to them. As such, I don't see a demonstrated need for you to have the global AFH role since you probably don't have experience helping with false positives on other wikis, and the potential risks of granting the abuse filter helper role to a user with a low global edit count outweigh the benefits. Codename Noreste 🤔 talk 02:58, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose for the reasons laid out by EggRoll97 --DannyS712 (talk) 14:11, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
Hi! I wanted get these permissions because they are beneficial in fighting against vandalism. If these permissions do not work in that purpose I do not need the permissions. Thanks! Julius 12345 (talk) 17:18, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
@Julius 12345: You do need more detail though, because "fighting against vandalism" in itself is something that you can do with very little knowledge of abuse filters (and note that you can't edit filters anyway). Leaderboard (talk) 06:38, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose No advanced local or global rights, unclear usecase --Ameisenigel (talk) 09:20, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose Logs and filter rules declared as private are quite sensible and shouldn't be accessible unless a demonstrated need arises. --M/ (talk) 09:32, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose Neriah - 💬 - 12:36, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
  • Oppose as you don't seem to have the required experience for this permission, and based on your response if you want to fight vandalism you don't need it at all. Try to use, for example, Twinkle and join SWMT instead. --Stïnger (会話) 21:37, 5 April 2024 (UTC).

Not done Based on the comments so far, it does not appear that the request has a chance to pass, so to avoid further piling on I'm closing this early. @Julius 12345: please do not feel discouraged by this, take the feedback into account and feel free to reapply when you have gained more experience. Abuse filter helper for Seawolf35

Not ending before 15 April 2024 18:59 UTC

Hello all, I do a good amount of work that is directly related to private filters. I have done a fair bit of reporting at SRG that directly involves private filters. I mainly focus on anti-spam but I do anti-LTA work as well. This would help me to reduce the number of reports that I make that are inaccurate and that would reduce the workload on the stewards. I could also help reduce FPs on the filters as I have a decent knowledge of regex. I am trusted with private data elsewhere in Wikimedia, being identified to the foundation, I am also trusted with checkuser like information with the account creation process on the English Wikipedia, you may verify that here. Thank you --Seawolf35 (talk) 18:59, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

API high limit requestors for WikiBayer

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I often have problems in non-GS wikis because I often exceed the standard limits through my work. This affects my work, so it would be good if I could add to the group. --𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 08:06, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

There was some opposition here from users who wanted the apihighlimits right to be added to global rollbackers instead. This is still yet to happen, and would require a separate discussion if global rollbackers overall feel that they have a need for this right. So, disregarding that, there is a valid use case and an overall consensus to grant the right. Given this, and that the only opposition here is not based on the candidate, I'm closing this as Done. Hello! I'd like to request abuse filter helper. I'm kowiki admin, and I often handle JavaScript maintenance tasks(Please see ko:사용자:기나ㅏㄴ/User_Scripts including ko:user:기나ㅏㄴ/RedWarn etc., simple:special:diff/9117268...). Recently, there has been a need for importing filters for moving page and user script usage restrictions. Also, the policies I'm pushing for have passed,(ko:백:빠삭 which is same as enwiki's en:wp:CSD, ...) so I need other Wikipedia's abuse filter references for those policies. I'm majoring in computer science, so I'm good at regular expressions.(And I'm maintaining several abuse filters) I want to import good abuse filters from other wiki. Global interface editor for Sohom Datta

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 22 April 2024 17:14 UTC

Hi guys! I'm Sohom, a volunteer developer who has worked on the technical side of Wikisource for a while. The primary motivation behind this request is the fact that I'm planning to do some work on T348078 and bring some JS gadgets/userscripts in Wikisources in line with the recently introduced Stable interface policy. This work might require making some uncontroversial maintainance edits to various onwiki JS gadgets and userscripts on Wikisource and I'd like to be able to make them without having to bother interface administrators of a wiki (or in cases where the wiki is small, Global sysops). --Sohom (talk) 16:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

A good example of a uncontroversial change is have scripts switch from using $( '.prp-page-image img' ).attr( 'src' ) to mw.proofreadpage.openseadragon.getCurrentImage() which allows for scripts to interface with the Openseadragon UI instead of using the (mostly) deprecated .prp-page-image element. Sohom (talk) 17:14, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Granted for 1 year to expire on 2025-04-22. --Mykola 19:23, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Global API high limit requestors for CampWiz

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before Wed, 19:18, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

This bot is a part of the tool CampWiz which assists organizers of various edit-a-thon to host, manage campaign, evaluate submissions, publish results (As of now, about 30 campaigns are hosted and 9500+ articles were submitted through this tool). One of its sibling tool helps organizers to generate a list of articles which are not present on their wiki based on topic (As of now, 233k+articles in 150+ lists were harvested). One of our main targets was to reduce the security issue and liability along with privacy issue. As such, this tool uses a single bot account to interact with mediawiki which eliminates the need of storing the user's access token on the server. This bot mainly interacts with mediawiki API using two of the following cases:

  1. FnF List Generator: When determining the missing articles, it uses the categories (in enwiki) to get through its members. It has to go through all of the category members and needs to check whether they are missing in selected language or not. There the performance of this tool heavily depend of each batch size. apihighlimits would allow the performance to improve drastically. Therefore, it needs this right on enwiki.
  2. CampWiz: This tool allows the campaign to have a restriction based on the contributions of the submitter. That is, it can also determine how many bytes + words the submitter added during the campaign period. This is done via retrieving all the revisions during that period and performing calculations. If we get this right on each of the language the tool deals with, the overall speed of submission scrutiny would increase significantly. This needs the right globally.

So, after considering both of the scenerio, I think it would be appropriate to have global apihighlimits flag on this account. (For additional information, this bot has bot flag in several wiki for some write operation. But this global apihighlimits would be used for read operations only). Thanks, --Nokib Sarkar (talk) 19:18, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

I would like to assist with requests on my local English Wikipedia. I have also been reading and reviewing experienced renamers logs. I've read all the local and global guidelines, and I assure everyone I will use this tool with responsibility. Thank you. Kentuckian (talk) 18:29, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
