Abuse filter helper for XXBlackburnXx

Not ending before 25 January 2024 08:59 UTC

Hello! As an local abuse filter editor (and administrator) on the Dutch Wikipedia, it would be super helpful to see the contents of global abuse filters marked as private so that I can address false positives more easily and see what kind of edits are already covered by them. Ofcourse I'm always available to help other projects or suggest any changes when needed, though that will work best when assigned with the right. Thanks :)! --XXBlackburnXx (talk) 08:59, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Ansony89

I am an extended confirmed user of Chinese Wikipedia and English Wikipedia, and I am also a rollbacker and edit filter helper of Chinese Wikipedia. I have IPBE of enwiki and zhwiki. In addition, I edited content on French and Japanese Wikipedias a lot recently, so a single local IPBE cannot meet my editing needs. Since I live in mainland China, I have to use a VPN entirely to edit (or even access) Wikipedia article and any other Wikimedia related pages. And when I'm using a VPN, I'm often blocked from editing due to my IP address. And the IP addresses I use are usually blocked globally, not just locally. So I am requesting global IPBE permission, thank you! --Ansony89 (talk) 16:07, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

After reviewing their global contribution, I think it is appropriate to grant GIPBE. Thanks. --SCP-2000 13:22, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
@Ansony89 are you aware that GIPBE does nothing against local IP blocks? Are you facing only global blocks? zhwiki generally blocks locally just like enwiki. — xaosflux Talk 16:10, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
I know, thank you for reminding me. Although this is true, if I obtain GIPBE, it will be easier for me to edit Wikipedia in different language versions. Even if this is not necessarily useful, it will allow me to better contribute to Wikimedia. If I frequently edit certain language versions of Wikipedia, I would apply for an additional local exemption. I obtained IPBE of enwiki and zhwiki not long ago. Since my IP address is not permanently fixed, I occasionally encounter global blocks. But because sometimes the IP address I have used for a long time is suddenly blocked globally, I have to find another more secure VPN. Anyway, thank you for your reminder and help! Ansony89 (talk) 16:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Done for a year. Requestor's sufficiently trusted considering their local IPBE flags, and they edit also other language versions. GIPBE seems warranted. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:27, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Meiko21

Hello, I have recently had to use VPN and Proxy to contribute because the internet connection where I live is inherently poor and often intermittent. Because of using VPN, many times when I access projects I cannot edit them (Except for Vietnamese Wikipedia). I wish I was granted this permission so that I can contribute to many global projects of the organization. Thank you! --Meiko 10:04, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

We would need more details and it would likely involve us needing to speak about details you would not want public. Either a UTRS request or an email would be appropriate. -- Amanda (she/her) 15:54, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
@AmandaNP I just requested on UTRS please check

Not done declined in UTRS, and use case doesn't match. Adding a VPN increases the overhead of a network connection, using more bandwidth on a constrained connection not less. — xaosflux Talk 11:14, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for 在下羊羽君

Hello~ I'm located in PRC, and I have to use VPN and Proxy to visit and contribute because of GFW. I have been already granted IPBE in zh WP, and now I also hope to be granted GIPBE. I'm interested in editing on zh-yue WP, wikinews and so on, also I have some photos used in article taken by myself going to upload to Wikimedia Commons. Global IP block exempt for Jasskurn

I'm located in the UK. I use a VPN and therefore can not edit. I'm asking for an exemption for the following reasons. The reason I use a VPN is due to British Legislation - [Powers Act 2016] which is now coming into effect. As the Wiki page shows, the legislation forces British ISP's to record and store for 1 year, all internet traffic metadata. The data is in practice easily accessible by a vast range of British organisations from National Crime Agency to the Welsh Ambulance service. An effective loophole means the data recording rules don't apply to VPNs. I have personal reasons for not having my wiki editing to to be recorded. I also do not trust my ISP to securely store this data. I'm am happy to explain the personal reasons if they are not recorded here.

All previous data I have added is linked to contributions to OpenStreetMap, and OpenStreetMaps use of wikidata and commons for extra info links. My account on OpenStreetMap is JassKurn , thanks, --Jasskurn (talk) 16:16, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Not done this has sat lingering for a while, I'm declining. Regardless of local acts, all ISPs are able to monitor their network use so this is not an exceptional use case. You may of course ask the local project admins for exemptions- see: commons:Commons:IP block exemption and/or wikidata:Wikidata:IP block exemption for information on those projects. — xaosflux Talk 11:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Denny

I am on mobile using Google One VPN, which is blocked as an Open Proxy, if I understand it right. If I don't use the VPN, I am blocked as being a T-Mobile user. I am a long term contributor, and find it frustrating that I cannot contribute on the device I use increasingly most to read Wikipedia. --denny (talk) 23:39, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

@Denny VPN blocks are expected, T-Mobile blocks should only be hitting logged out users. If you turn off your VPN and log on you should be able to contribute (may need to wait for any autoblock/cookie blocks to expire in 24 hours). — xaosflux Talk 00:13, 19 January 2024 (UTC)

2FA Tester for Ansony89

Hello, I would like to have the 2 Factor Auth tester permissions globally. Even though I can already enable this feature through zhwiki, I would like to have permission to do so on Meta-Wiki. I take the security of my account very seriously and will enable 2FA when using other websites. I think being allowed to turn on 2FA as an editor also indirectly helps protect Wikipedia from malicious vandals. I have read the instructions and am fully aware of the consequences that may arise for me. So I sincerely request you to grant me this global permission, thanks! --Ansony89talk page 23:18, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

@Ansony89 you realize that turning this on is a global option - if you can already do it on a project you should just do it there; what exactly are you trying to accomplish? — xaosflux Talk 23:54, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your question. In fact, I have a plan to be less active on the zhwiki in the future, so my relevant permissions there may be revoked (Maybe I will take the initiative to apply to cancel them as well). If I no longer belong to certain user groups, I will not be able to turn 2FA back on after turning it off. Ansony89talk page 00:03, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
@Ansony89 ok have you read Help:Two-factor authentication - especially the parts that could lead to permanent loss of your account? — xaosflux Talk 00:10, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for asking me responsibly again. I've read Help:Two-factor authentication and know that if I lose my device I risk losing my account forever. So I make sure to write down or print the recovery codes I was given when enabling 2FA and keep them in a safe place. In short, I will take steps to avoid accidents as much as possible. Thanks! Requests for global rename permissions

Global rename for DreamRimmer

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 12 January 2024 15:48 UTC

Hello everyone, I withdrew my previous request 80 days ago to gain more experience and make improvements. Now, I am reapplying for the global rename rights. I would like to assist with requests from English and Indic wikis as well as Meta. I am well-informed about the global and local username rename policies and assure you that I will use this tool responsibly. I hope to have your support for this request. Thank you! – DreamRimmer (talk) 15:48, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Question Question: What kind of rename experience do you have? I'm still not seeing any particular experience in the area, and while I'm not opposed because of a lack of current admin rights, I'm not sure I see any demonstrated need here for global renamer rights. I've looked through rename pages on your top projects (which is enwiki and meta? hiwiki doesn't seem to have a dedicated rename page unless I'm not seeing it) and you have zero contributions to en:Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple or en:Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. EggRoll97 (talk) 18:14, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
I am familiar with the global and local rename policies. Since I am not a renamer, it doesn't make sense for me to handle or comment on en:Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple or en:Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. I regularly clerk at en:WP:UAA and also help with bot false positive reports. Additionally, I observe from rename logs. As you mentioned the demonstrated need, I have been actively looking to help in rename requests for many months. – DreamRimmer (talk) 00:47, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
In terms of rename experience, I am not currently a renamer, and I haven't processed any requests yet. However, I possess knowledge about usernames and the rename process. For instance, I understand what kinds of usernames are acceptable and what kinds are not. While Hiwiki doesn't have a dedicated venue for renames, I am willing to assist with any Indic requests in the queue. – DreamRimmer (talk) 00:57, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Weak support I'm convinced you probably know what you're doing, and you do have both cross-wiki experience and specific experience at UAA, but Simple and Usurpations do have clerking instructions, and I can't strengthen the support any more without at least some experience in those areas. Given that global renamer isn't exactly wiki-breaking stuff here, I don't see a need to be a sysop to have it. Helps, but probably shouldn't be necessary. Hello! I'm Ingenuity, an administrator on enwiki, and I'd like to request this permission mainly to deal with unblock requests (though I may assist with the general queue as well). Our unblock backlog has been growing for a while now, and many of the requests require a rename to handle. Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Tropicalkitty

Not ending before 30 January 2024 01:50 UTC

I would like to request global rollback as I can no longer access SWViewer, despite having sufficient global edit counts and advanced permissions on mediawikiwiki (which led to local rollback at commons and one other project, with enwikibooks by automatic criteria). I have been monitoring some projects a bit more over some consecutive month than I have in the last few years. Tropicalkitty (talk) 01:50, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

After further thought, there is another reason I would like global rollback: for recent changes itself when I’m on a particular wiki (not in the app) and the page history of like my user space or something on multiple wikis (in the case of disruption). Tropicalkitty (talk) 04:55, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Comment Comment Most of my initial request comment was probably not sufficient enough as a request for any permissions, so I apologize for that. I did mention that I was a bit more active throughout multiple consecutive months than I had over a few years where I was just doing activities at the MediaWiki (documentation wiki). I had made a follow-up a few hours later mentioning that I would like to request GR in the event I’m just checking a wiki in particular by recent changes and for edits in my user space by others that are obviously in bad intentions (when just looking at the page history itself). I had also requested GR because I felt I had sufficient cross-wiki activity. Tropicalkitty (talk) 22:09, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Access granted. Congrats, RadiX 03:44, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
