From Ottoman Turkish قسطنطینیه (Kostantiniye), from Arabic القسطنطينية, a definite relative noun (nisba) composed of قُسْطَنْطِين (qusṭanṭīn, Constantine) +‎ ـِيَّة (-iyya). Probably an ellipsis of اَلْمَدِينَة الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّة (al-madīna l-qusṭanṭīniyya, the city of Constantine).
