    In its latest weather advisory, the IMD warns of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall affecting Northwest and East India over the next few days, with Northeast India also bracing for prolonged rainfall. This follows severe disruptions caused by heavy rains last Friday in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, severely impacting local communities.

    According to the IMD, central Maharashtra, Konkan, Goa, and Karnataka are likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next 2-3 days. The forecast also predicts isolated heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh until early next week.

    Saturday in Delhi is expected to be marked by cloudy skies with intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, as per the Met office. Maximum temperatures could rise to 33 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures are expected around 26 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued alerts for heavy rainfall over the next few days in the national capital region.

    Heavy rains have led to tragic incidents in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, including drowning and landslides.     The flood situation in Assam has reached critical levels, affecting over 22 lakh people across 29 districts. Major rivers are flowing above the danger mark, exacerbating the crisis. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-hit areas in Dibrugarh, where he witnessed the devastating impact on communities and wildlife, with casualties reported among wild animals in Kaziranga National Park.

    Traffic has been halted at Rudraprayag Gaurikund National Highway-107 due to incessant downpours in the region, said police on Saturday.

    Rudraprayag Police, Uttarakhand, shared information on X and posted, "The Rudraprayag Gaurikund NH 107 is blocked in the Doliya Devi (Phata) area. Efforts are underway to open the road."

    "It is raining continuously in the entire Rudraprayag district. Travel only if it is absolutely necessary," said the post.

    Vehicular movement on the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district has also been blocked due to the falling and piling up of debris at five places in the district.

    IMD Weather Forecast: Amarnath Yatra suspended

    The Amarnath Yatra was temporarily suspended on both routes to the cave shrine on Saturday as a precautionary measure due to heavy rainfall, officials said. Intermittent heavy rainfall has been seen along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes since last night, they said.

    The decision to temporarily suspend the yatra was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, the officials added.

    The number of devotees who have visited the 3,800-metre-high cave shrine and had 'darshan' of the naturally formed ice lingam has crossed 1.50 lakh.

    As the monsoon continues to unleash heavy rainfall across multiple states, the IMD's forecasts play a crucial role in preparedness and mitigation efforts. Authorities remain on high alert, focusing on rescue operations and relief measures in affected regions to minimize further casualties and property damage.
