The Department’s aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. The NMERB’s mission is to provide secure retirement benefits for New Mexico's educational employees--past, present and future and to be an effective and trusted manager of New Mexico's Educational retirement system. The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department was created in 1987 through a merger between the Natural Resources Department and the Energy and Minerals Department. The individual administrative pieces of the department have been around much longer than that, though. The present-day Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department consists of seven divisions and employs approximately 415 people at 48 different work sites around the state.

The organization of the New Mexico Legislature is similar to those in other states. The 112 members of the Legislature are divided into two chambers —the House of Representatives, composed of 70 members who run for office every two years, and the Senate, composed of 42 members who run for office every four years. Representatives must be 21 years or older, and senators must be 25 years or older. Legislators must be citizens of the United States and live in the districts from which they are elected.

The New Mexico Lottery Authority is a government instrumentality, separate and apart from the state, governed by a board of seven directors, who are appointed by the Governor.
