Description:

The state documents collection at the New Mexico State Library is the main access point for historical and current New Mexico government publications. This is accomplished through the State Depository Clearinghouse at the New Mexico State Library to which state agencies send physical and digital publications for preservation, distribution, and public access.

The New Mexico State Library State Government Website Archive seeks to preserve and provide access to agency websites and content that was historically printed. This preservation began in 2023 and will remain an ongoing preservation activity. New content is collected twice a year every year. The Library of Congress also has historic website preservation for New Mexico State Government Websites beginning in 2000 and collecting more information intermittently.

New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department

The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department was created in 1987 through a merger between the Natural Resources Department and the Energy and Minerals Department. The individual administrative pieces of the department have been around much longer than that, though. The present-day Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department consists of seven divisions and employs approximately 415 people at 48 different work sites around the state.

The organization of the New Mexico Legislature is similar to those in other states. The 112 members of the Legislature are divided into two chambers —the House of Representatives, composed of 70 members who run for office every two years, and the Senate, composed of 42 members who run for office every four years. Representatives must be 21 years or older, and senators must be 25 years or older. Legislators must be citizens of the United States and live in the districts from which they are elected.
