Star Wars: The Action Figure Archive is a reference book first published by Neko Publishing in Japan in December 1997,[1] written by Eimei Takeda and Seiji Takahashi. Covering all Hasbro and Kenner Products action figures from 1977 to 1997 (with a 1998 update in later editions), it has over 2000 high-definition photos.[3]
Stephen J. Sansweet and Josh Ling assisted in the creation of the original book, which Neko described as a "mook"—a hybrid book and magazine. Takeda and a representative from Neko contacted Lucasfilm Ltd., which collaborated in the project, with Allan Kausch from Lucasfilm contributing as an editor. Photo assistant Cara Evangelista was also involved; one photographer in Los Angeles and three photographers in Tokyo produced the images for the book with the help of collectors in the United States and the Lucasfilm photo archive.[3]
Sansweet and Ling also adapted the book into the English language, with the American edition published in 1999 by Chronicle Books. It was coordinated by Lucy Autrey Wilson and Sarah Malarkey, Julia Bragg, and Mikyla Bruder from Chronicle Books and was updated with some newer figures with the help of Linda Baker in public relations of Hasbro/Kenner. A hardcover version was printed in Hong Kong and released in the UK in the same year by Virgin Publishing.[3]
