For other uses, see Sarissa (disambiguation).

"I was just thinking that some of the smugglers who hang out here must have gone head-to-head with either the Sarissa or the Golan over the years. Maybe we should bring Han back and see if he can sound out the locals for us."
Leia Organa[1]

The Sarissa was a dreadnought that served the Galactic Empire by guarding the Candoras sector's Poln system as part of the sector's fleet. Imperial Senior Captain Thrawn sent the dreadnought's Caldorf VII interceptor missiles to Poln's planet of Poln Minor, where Storm-hair Warlord Nuso Esva's stole them and loaded them aboard Esva's fifty Whisperlike fighters in 0 ABY. The dreadnought later fought Esva's Eastern Fleet along with other Imperial forces.

Description[]

"Are you aware that all fifty of the Sarissa's Caldorf VII interceptor missiles were removed four days ago?"
"Yes, of course. The notice came through last week—some possible malfunction in the guidance systems, I'm told. They're at the Spillwater Fleet base being recalibrated."
"Not anymore they're not. […] Nuso Esva is currently loading them aboard his own ships somewhere on Poln Minor."
Emperor's Hand Mara Jade and General Ularno[1]

The Dreadnought Sarissa was armed with fifty Caldorf VII interceptor missiles and turbolasers. It was antiquated.[1]

Role[]

The Sarissa served the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy, guarding the Candoras sector's Poln system while orbiting Poln's capital planet of Poln Major. It was part of Candoras' Governor Bidor Ferrouz's sector fleet.[1]

History[]

"And the Sarissa's also now moving up to support the Admonitor."
"Right. […] Looks like whoever's in charge is pulling in every turbolaser he's got."
―Commandant Barcelle and Han Solo, posing as a Major Axlon[1]

In 0 ABY,[2] the Sarissa's missiles were supposedly sent to the Imperial Spillwater Fleet base to be calibrated, as it was suspected that their guidance systems were malfunctioning; however, that was untrue, as Imperial Senior Captain Thrawn had sent them to Poln's planet Poln Minor, where the forces of[1] Storm-hair[3] Warlord Nuso Esva stole them. His Chosen warriors then loaded them aboard their fifty Whisperlike fighters.[1]

Executor-SWE

The Executor-class Star Dreadnought Executor (pictured) fought the Eastern Fleet alongside the Sarissa.

After the Imperial Task Force Admonitor and the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Chimaera arrived over Poln Major, Esva's massive Eastern Fleet arrived, with its twenty-eight Firekiln warships prepared to destroy the Sarissa and Candoras' fleet if they attempted to assist the Star Destroyers. Esva also put the Chimaera on a collision course with Poln's Golan I space station and trapped Task Force Admonitor and the Sarissa with Poln Minor's gravvity well; however, the Chimaera was able to move away from its collision course and the Sarissa moved to assist the Admonitor, as reported by the Golan's Commandant Barcelle. The Whisperlikes with the dreadnought's missiles attempted to destroy the Admonitor, but the Golan destroyed them before they could near their target. Shortly after, the Imperial Death Squadron, whose flagship was the massive Executor-class Star Dreadnought Executor, arrived and helped destroy Esva's entire Eastern Fleet.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Sarissa appeared in the 2011 novel Choices of One, written by Timothy Zahn.[1]
