"The Sith killed each other. Victims of their own greed. But from the ashes of destruction, I was the last survivor."
―Darth Bane's specter — (audio) Listen (file info)[8]

The defeat of the Sith,[3] also known as the decimation of the Sith[9] or the fall of the Sith,[10] was an engagement fought at[3] the world[11] of Ruusan[3] in the Mid Rim Territories[11] during the year 1032 BBY.[2] The incident marked the end of the Jedi-Sith War by[5] appearing to be the destruction of the Sith Order.[8]

Weakened after their greed and lust for power caused infighting amongst themselves,[8] the Sith were all but destroyed[3] by Jedi Knights.[9] In truth, however, Darth Bane was left the sole Sith survivor of the war.[12] He had helped bring about the destruction of his own order[13] because he had come to believe that, for the Sith to survive, they needed to limit their numbers so as to prevent infighting.[8] The victory began a new era for the Galactic Republic.[3] Following the defeat of the Sith, Form II "Makashi" fell out of fashion in the Jedi Order and was gradually seen as a mere training exercise.[14]
