During the Clone Wars, Jedi Padawan Barriss Offee wielded a blue single-bladed lightsaber.

History[]

When she turned sixteen^[2] in 24 BBY,^[3] Padawan Barriss Offee constructed her own lightsaber, choosing a blue crystal as its signature hue. As part of her training^[2] in 22 BBY, Offee accompanied her master Luminara Unduli to Ilum to reassemble her lightsaber. Offee used it to defend herself from the droids planting explosives in an attempt to destroy the temple.^[5] After being buried in, the pair had then been saved by Grand Master Yoda.^[6]

Offee used her lightsaber throughout the rest of the war until her fall to the dark side of the Force in 20 BBY, when she bombed the temple, killing workers, clones, and framed her friend, Padawan Ahsoka Tano for the crime. When Anakin Skywalker came to her quarters, he took the lightsaber as he "casually" engaged Offee in inquisitive conversation before activating it and lashing at her. She was forced to defend herself using the lightsabers she'd stolen from Asajj Ventress, giving herself away. The two engaged in an intense duel, Skywalker using Offee's own lightsaber along with his own weapon against her. During the fight, Offee leaped from a ledge to attack Skywalker, the force of her attack knocking her former weapon out of Anakin's hand. It was last seen lying on the ground as Offee was disarmed and arrested.^[4]

Behind the scenes[]

While the 2004 Clone Wars novel MedStar II: Jedi Healer establishes that Barriss Offee built her lightsaber when she was sixteen,^[2] the fourteenth episode of the 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars microseries depicts Offee building her lightsaber during the war.^[5] Leland Chee's "Ask Lobot" article in Star Wars Insider 121 mentions the discrepancy between the episode and other pre-Clone Wars sources of the Star Wars Legends continuity that featured the lightsaber.^[7] This article assumes that the mention of Barriss Offee reassembling and taking the lightsaber apart as part of her training in Jedi Healer is depicted in the Chapter 14 of the microseries.
