Star Wars fans are review bombing the wrong Acolyte

These aren't the Acolytes you're looking for.

A little over a week after the release of the first two episodes of Star Wars’ The Acolyte, an attempt at negatively review-bombing the new series on Rotten Tomatoes has begun.

Seeing anything Star Wars-related requiring more than one second after its release to gather an avalanche of negative reactions nowadays is already pretty surprising, but this story gets even better. It turns out that the review bombing campaign pretty much ignored the actual Star Wars Acolyte TV series, and accidentally ended up hitting other works whose creators were unlucky enough to name after the word “Acolyte“.

The biggest victim is a 2008 Thriller called Acolytes, which is now sitting at 35% Audience Score after a barrage of negative SW-related ramblings.

To be entirely honest, I’m yet to watch Acolytes, the movie, not the similarly-titled SW series, but I’m pretty sure that its only link with Star Wars is Joel Edgerton. I know he plays Owen Lars in one, and a serial killer in the other one — Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, I presume. I’m not sure, though. I have a hard time remembering what happened in the prequels because of all the damage I sustained from watching the prequels. Still, I’m leaving the trailer for Acolytes below to let you decide, anyway.

And Acolytes wasn’t the only victim, as The Acolyte, a Star Wars fan film also saw a suspicious surge in the 1-star review department that completely destroyed its IMDb rating.

This is completely unnecessary because it’s just mean, but also because fan movies don’t fare really well in the ratings department, anyway. I believe that the best thing we can do to help restore the balance is to post the whole The Acolyte fan movie below:

Sound off in the comments to let me know if it’s any good!

You can now watch the first three episodes of The Acolyte — the real one, on Disney +, and you can watch the unrelated and very hated Acolytes on Apple TV, if that’s your thing.
