Nintendo, never shy of a few bob, has lightened its wallet to the tune of ¥5 billion ($40 million USD) in order to secure a plot of land in Kyoto. The locale will play host to a new studio expansion, located just next door to the legendary publisher‘s Japanese headquarters.

The 10,000 square meter plot will be used as the location for the tentatively titled “Nintendo Headquarters Second Development Building.” As the name suggests, the new building will focus specifically on the development aspect of Nintendo games and hardware, with an emphasis on strengthening the studio’s Research & Development arms.

The finished building is no woodshed. The completed studio is expected to stand around 12 stories high and will cover a total floor space of some 38,000 square meters. The image above offers an artist’s impression of the new unit, alongside a diagram that shows the building’s close proximity to Nintendo’s main HQ. As you can see, it’s just a few flicks of a raccoon’s tail away. Unfortunately, it does not appear that the new location will be painted in Kirby Pink.

The Nintendo Headquarters Second Development Building is expected to see completion in late 2027.
