KFC coming to Final Fantasy XIV in bizarre crossover

Eorzea's about to get a taste of Kentucky chicken.

Final Fantasy XIV is due to have a finger-lickin’ good crossover with KFC soon. The acclaimed MMORPG is no stranger to unexpected crossovers, but these are often with other games and not fast food brands.

KFC Japan announced the collaboration on X (Twitter) with a surprisingly ominous teaser. The 15-seconds show Colonel Sanders solemnly looking over the Eorzean sea before casting Triplecast, a spell exclusive to Black Mages starting at level 66. Assuming the Colonel is at this level, he’d likely be in the middle of Stormblood, galavating across the Doman continent.

There isn’t a lot to see from the teaser, but the glitched text stating “Coming Soon” reads like a warning. I never thought I’d ask myself if Colonel Sanders would become an enemy in Final Fantasy XIV, but it almost sounds plausible now.

Details on the collaboration are sparse, and if this tweet was it, I’d think it was a joke. This probably isn’t the case because KFC Japan has another tweet teasing a Final Fantasy collaboration for October 4. Final Fantasy isn’t explicitly named, but silhouettes of the Chocobo Alpha and a moogle are dead giveaways.

A crossover like this isn’t surprising given Final Fantasy‘s previous collaborations with food brands. I’ll never forget the Cup Noodles content in FFXV and Noctis wearing a Cup Noodles hat.

That comparison might not be the best regarding what to expect since they differ greatly. Whatever it turns out to be, it’ll be a treat to the overlap of fans who enjoy KFC and FFXIV.
