How to unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic Quest in Destiny 2

Time to do some patrolling.

Dual Destiny is an Exotic Quest in Destiny 2 that makes it possible to unlock and earn your Exotic Class item from now that Episode Echoes has launched. However, you’re going to need to put in a lot of legwork to get this Quest to unlock and complete a very specific set of requirements.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape has a host of secrets for players to uncover, but Episode Echoes has given us one of the best so far. Exotic Class items were one of the most highly sought-after pieces of gear among fans before the expansion was released, and once you’ve worked your way through the prerequisites, you can jump into a brand new Dungeon and collect yours.

How to unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic Quest in Destiny 2

Below, I’ve outlined how to unlock the Dual Destiny Exotic Quest in Destiny 2. There are a few steps that most players will have worked through to some degree already. For newcomers, there’s a long road ahead of you before you get into the secret stuff.

Step 1: Complete The Final Shape‘s campaign

The first thing you must do is complete The Final Shape‘s campaign. To do this, you’ve got to work through every narrative mission until Iconoclasm and complete them. Then, you need to work through the Destined Heroes Quest until you unlock The Pale Heart as a location to explore. This will allow you to take part in the new activity there.

The easy way to know if you’ve done this is if you’ve met Micah-10, then you’re good to go. If not, keep playing the main story until you do.

Step 2: Complete Overthrow in all three regions

Overthrow is the new activity in The Pale Heart that you can now participate in. To complete it, you need to enter a region and fight through three levels of enemies, completing dynamic objectives to boost your score as you play before a final boss appears at the last level.

You can do this solo. I did. It takes a long time, and using the matchmaking option for a region is definitely the better choice, but you can grind your way through this activity by yourself without any issues.

Your goal here isn’t only to complete Overthrow once, though. You’ve got to complete the activity three times. Onc in each of The Blooming, The Landing, and The Impasse regions. Once you’ve completed Overthrow twice and listened to Savathun, remember how much fun you had with the activity because you won’t be done soon.

When you kill the boss in the last region or any region once you’ve completed Overthrow in all three regions, you’ll see some text on-screen telling you that a Secret-Keeper of The Witch Queen is near. Note that this Secret-Keeper, which is a Hive Wizard yellow bar enemy, will be in the same region as the Overthrow activity you just completed.

So, if you just completed Overthrow in The Blooming, the Secret-Keeper will be in The Blooming. Rush around the area until you find this enemy and kill it. When you do, you’ll get a notification telling you the Secret-Keeper has been vanquished.

Step 3: Repeat the Overthrow activity and kill two more Secret-Keepers

Unfortunately, yes. Now you’ve killed one Secret-Keeper, you’ve got to go out and kill two more in the regions that you’ve already completed. Destiny 2 has always been a grind, and this certainly isn’t the worst grind in the game by a long way, but it’s still going to take you quite a while to do.

After killing the third Secret-Keeper, a big green/gold light will shine in the sky. It’s coming from The Refraction, which is where you need to go next.

Step 4: Head to The Refraction and Unlock Dual Destiny

In The Refraction, move through the area to the crystal cave. It’s at the end of the path if you keep walking through and then interact with a memory. Then, you’ll get two new objective markers and find two Pyramid Shards with loads of enemies nearby. You’ve got to kill the enemies around these until they spawn a Subjugator. When you’ve damaged the Subjugator enough, it’ll phase away and drop a token of either Light or Darkness.

You need to pick these up and follow the on-screen objective marker to a cave where there are Founts that you can drop them on. Once both Founts have been activated, the flag for the Dual Destiny Dungeon and Exotic Quest will spawn.

This is a two-player activity, and it’s impossible to complete without someone else. So find a friend you’re great at working with, load into it, and get after your Exotic Class item.
