How to get the Hawkmoon Exotic Hand Cannon – Destiny 2

Easier than before, but less obvious

Some Destiny 2 Exotics only get harder to come by with time. This is the case for the Hawkmoon Exotic hand cannon. While the weapon is still available in-game, few pointers signal where to find the gun. All said, it’s actually easier to earn the weapon, but Guardians need to know where to look. Once players know where to find Hawkmoon, acquiring the powerful gun should become a priority. It can function competently in any PvE or PvP player’s toolkit.

Prior to The Witch Queen expansion, Hawkmoon was obtained through a quest. That globe-trotting endeavor would see Guardians collecting golden feathers and investigating the EDZ. However, the pursuit was dependent on some elements from the Forsaken expansion, namely the Tangled Shore locale. The Tangled Shore was vaulted in the months just before The Witch Queen, so where do players find Hawkmoon now?

With the Tangled Shore and any hope of completing the original quest gone, only one option remains for the gun. Xur has become the sole provider of the weapon, sold during his weekend appearances. Players interested in adding the Hawkmoon to their arsenal should note that Xur’s offerings change weekly. In addition, his wares are only available starting on Friday’s daily reset and until the weekly reset on Tuesdays.

An important point to remember is that Hawkmoon comes with a unique roll that changes weekly. No amount of repurchasing will change what Xur offers any given week. So, patience is advised if the weekend’s version lacks the perks players seek. It may not be what Guardians want, but it’s better to wait until Xur offers a better roll another week.

What are good rolls for Hawkmoon?

Guardians might wonder what perk combinations to watch for so those rare resources aren’t wasted. Like many other weapons, the desired perks differ depending on whether players plan to take the gun into PvE or PvP. Also to consider is how the perks play into the hand cannon’s unique Exotic perk. Paracausal Shot grants players stacks on precision hits or kills. These stacks are consumed on the final bullet in the mag, granting a massive damage bonus per stack.

PvP

Guardians looking to take Hawkmoon into The Crucible will want to find a roll that best complements Hawkmoon’s Exotic perk. PvP players should prioritize stability and the ability to land hits. To that end, Opening Shot and Smooth Grip. It’s even better if it comes along with Smallbore.

PvE

While Hawkmoon gets more love in PvP, some players may want to bring it into other venues. It can still be fun, and the Exotic perk allows some big damage on Champions or high-priority targets. A good PvE roll can be similar to PvP rolls but with Surplus or Killing Wind instead of Opening Shot.
