How to get into the Grand Library in Wuthering Waves

Is this where the secret to our past is kept?

As part of the main story progression in Wuthering Waves, you’ll need to gain access to the Grand Library. This huge database of information is vital to figuring out who you are and where you came from, but it’s not easy to access.

You’ll only be able to get into the Grand Library once you reach Union level 14 and have figured out the Sundial token given to you by the Magistrate. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to continue the main story with Chapter 1 Act 4, Clashing Blades.

Meet with Chixia outside City Hall and after some conversation, you’ll have to unlock the Sundial. You’ll be given a couple of options here and you want to pick the following options:

  • The Shichen of Wei
  • Vermillion Bird of the South

After doing this, you’ll be able to retrieve a map from inside the Sundial, giving you the first clue to the whereabouts of the Grand Library.

Once you’re inside City Hall with the map in hand, head to the left side of the main room and interact with the vase which is furthest into the corner. This will open up one of the doors which line this room, allowing you to pass through and get on with the main puzzle of this quest

You’ll enter a room that’s filled with very deep water and has a platform in the middle. This platform has a set of drums on it called a Symphodai, but it’s missing a vital part – the notes. To find these notes, you’ll need to locate five Sonodisks.

The first Sonodisk (Yu) is easy to find, as it shows up directly behind the Symphodai. Pick this up, then return to the front of the Synphodai and place it in to unlock one of the many Loong Drums in the room. Interact with this Loong Drum and a platform will appear with a bell on it. You’ll need to hit this bell twice in order to turn the platform and gain access to the next room.

In this room, you’ll find two Tacet Discords which must be defeated before you continue. There’s a note on the floor of this room for you to read, then you can take the corridor on the right side of the room and pick up the second Sonodisk (Shang), returning it back to the Symphodai in the main space. This will cause the water level to drop and another Loong Drum to unlock.

Interact with this new Loong Drum and make your way onto the next platform. You’ll need to hit the bell here three times. This will give you access to the next room, but you’ll need to check another newly unlocked Loong Drum first. Finding it useless for the time being, head into the room that you unlocked using the platform and take the elevator up.

Defeat the two Tacet Discords you encounter and pick up the next Sonodisk (Jue), returning it to the Symphodai. Once you’ve done this, interact with the next Loong Drum and make your way onto the new platform.

Hit the bell three times again and make your way into the room, jumping down the elevator shaft. Pick up the next Sonodisk (Zhi) and place it into the Symphodai, causing the water to completely recede. Now you can jump down to the bottom, defeat the powerful Tacet Discords who appear and pick up the final Sonodisk (Gong).

Once you’ve got the final Sonodisk, interact with the Loong Drum on this bottom level and make your way up the ramp that appears. Use the elevator here to go up, then you’ll find another Loong Drum. Interact with it and take the ramp back down to the Symphodai. Place the Sonodisk into the Symphodai and the way into the Database will be unlocked.
