Platinum is bringing back cheat codes in Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, and you can use one of them to sidestep a requirement for unlocking hard mode. Here’s how to unlock it the “legit” way and with a code.

How to unlock the Forbidden Tale/hard mode in Bayonetta Origins normally

After completing the game, you’ll be able to select a “Forbidden Tale,” billed as a hard mode that is comprised of “satisfying action for players comfortable with this story.” In other words, it’s mainly for folks who have finished the game already.

This is what you can expect from Forbidden Tale:

  • There are no assist modes available
  • There are more enemies
  • Enemies are more aggressive
  • Cereza will take more damage

Note that when you start a game with the Forbidden Tale difficulty setting, you can’t change it back.

How to input the Platinum Code and unlock the Forbidden Tale

Revealed by way of a YouTube video from Platinum Games, there is now a “Platinum Code” you can input to sidestep the story completion requirement for hard mode/Forbidden Tale.

Head to the main menu, then input:

Up, Down, Left, Right, then X, B, Y, A

After that, Forbidden Tale mode will be available instantly. You don’t need to finish the story first!
