How to complete Doireann’s quests in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Straight from the ogre's mouth.

Sometime after completing Glyndwr’s quests, after you’ve journeyed to Battahl, you can return to Sacred Arbor and talk to his less handsome sister, Doireann. She tells you the elves’ favorite tree is dying and asks you to help her.

The job she has for you is actually two quests, but they include an ungodly amount of walking. Prepare your leg muscles for this one — below, we’re breaking down how to complete The Ailing Arborheart and Out of the Forest, Into the Forge quests.

How to complete The Ailing Arborheart

To complete The Ailing Arborheart in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to find Gwyfencha for Glyndwr’s sister, Doireann. As you might expect, this is not straightforward.

Before returning to Sacred Arbor to meet Doireann, I recommend having someone in your party with the Woodland Wordsmith vocation. Doing so will allow you to learn that Gwyfencha is actually Scalecinder, and give you the hint that you need to talk to the dwarven blacksmith in Bakbattahl named Brokkr.

I’m going to suggest Portcrystals here. One in Bakbattahl and one in Sacred Arbor if you haven’t already placed any there. I avoid fast travel a lot of the time, but this quest is too much.

For now, go to Brokkr’s Smithy and talk to Sara, Brokkr’s apprentice. She will tell you that you might be able to convince Brokkr to help you if you bring him an Elven delicacy called Nutriabh. This ends The Ailing Arborheart quest and begins Out of the Forest, into the Forge.

How to complete Out of the Forest, Into the Forge

To complete Out of the Forest, Into the Forge in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to go back to Sacred Arbor. This is why I suggested a Portcrystal.

Speak to Doireann, and she will tell you that she needs ingredients to make Nutriabh: a rotten fish and a rotten apple. I happened to have these shoved into my storage, so I just pulled them out and gave them to her. If you don’t keep rotten food in your footlocker, you’ll just need to catch (or buy) a fish, pick an apple, and wait a while for them to rot in your inventory.

Give these to Doireann, and she will make the Nutriabh. She will then ask to go with you to Bakbattahl and will give you a Ferrystone to get there faster. If you took my advice and plopped a Portcrystal in Bakbattahl, then it’s as simple as using that Ferrystone to jump straight to the city.

Go to Brokkr’s Smithy and speak to Sara. She’ll tell you the Scalecinder was emptied into a cavern not long ago and will lead you there. Doireann will give the Nutriabh to Brokkr, who will covertly sneak off to eat it. You then have to search the cavern for the Scalecinder.

The characters mention turning it into a competition, but it’s not. However, there is a time limit. It’s reasonable, so don’t panic. You’re looking to find six patches of Scalecinder. It just looks like a small pile of ashes. Make sure you break crates in the cave, as sometimes the cinder is beneath them.

There are six patches of cinder. I’m not sure if you need to find all of them within the time limit, but it isn’t difficult to be thorough. Once the time runs out, you’ll return to Doireann. Hand over the Scalecinder, and she will thank you for your time. You’ll be rewarded with 13000 G and a Warbler Capelet.
