How to complete An Alarming Development in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Chasing a sentient alarm clock seems like a terrible way to wake up.

Oswald is in Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time, thanks to the Thrills and Frills update, and he brings with him some friendship quests which should be completed before you continue Act II of the expansion.

Oswald’s level 4 quest, An Alarming Development, brings with it a grind that will be alarmingly familiar to anyone who remembers Minnie Mouse’s Clock.

The first step of An Alarming Development is making Oswald some alarm clocks to help him wake up in the morning. It turns out that a single alarm clock isn’t sufficient to drag the lucky rabbit out of bed in the morning (I know the feeling), so you’re going to need a huge pile of resources to make a lot of clocks.

The quest asks for the following items:

  • 35 Mechanical Parts
  • 15 Bronze Ingots
  • 50 Plastic Scrap
  • 10 Zinc

In total, you’ll need the following base resources to complete this step of An Alarming Development:

  • 305 Copper
    • Used in both Brass and Bronze Ingots which are then used to make Mechanical Parts. Can be found by breaking mining in all biomes of Eternity Isle, as well as by breaking Copper Rocks
  • 85 Coal Ore
    • Used in both Brass and Bronze Ingots which are then used to make Mechanical Parts. Can be found when mining in all biomes both on and off Eternity Isle, or can otherwise be purchased from Kristoff’s Stall for 5 Star Coins each
  • 80 Zinc
    • Used to craft Brass Ingots. Can be found when mining in the Wild Tangle
  • 50 Tin
    • Used to craft Bronze Ingots. Can be found when mining in the Glittering Dunes
  • 50 Plastic Scrap
    • Found when fishing anywhere around the Docks on Eternity Isle outside of fishing spots, or otherwise found by digging up Rubble

Once you’ve gathered the resources, head to a Crafting Station and use them to create Oswald’s selection of alarm clocks from the Functional Items tab. Then you’ll have to wait 10 minutes before you can talk to Oswald again to continue the quest.

How to find all of Oswald’s runaway clocks in Disney Dreamlight Valley

Map of Eternity Isle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

In true Disney fashion, the clocks have developed a taste for adventure, sprouted legs and run off. Oswald now needs our help to track them down before they cause a case of mass sleep deprivation in the other residents of Eternity Isle.

To grab the clocks, you’ll first need to track them down and then figure out their running pattern. They each follow a predetermined path, so you can intercept them pretty easily once found. You’ll  know when you’re getting close to a clock, because an alarm sound will play.

Here’s all the locations for the first seven runaway clocks:

Ancient’s Landing

  • Charleston can be found circling Goofy’s Stall on the Docks

Glittering Dunes

  • Lindy Hop can be found running a circuit in the main area where you enter from the  Courtyard
  • Tango can be found doing loops in the Borderlands
  • Foxtrot uses the ramps between the Wastes and the main area of Glittering Dunes to run circle, near to the original location of Gaston’s Lodge

Wild Tangle

  • Shimmy can be found in the first area of the Wild Tangle where you enter from the Courtyard
  • Texas Tommy utilises the ramps between The Promenade, The Grove and the Bamboo Thicket to run circuits between the three areas
  • Swing can be found running in circles within The Lagoon

Once you’ve found these seven clocks, head back to Oswald and hand them over. Sadly, your job isn’t done, because there are three more errant timepieces hidden around Eternity Isle. For these three, you’ll need to follow Oswald’s clues to find the remaining Clocks.

Here’s how to find the remaining three errant clocks:

  • “Rumba was seen swimming in Ancient’s Landing”
    • Head down to the docks and on to the small piers. Look for the golden fishing spot in the area and listen for the alarm sound. Use your Fishing Rod to fish up Rumba.
  • “Conga was spotted resting under a rock in the Wild Tangle”
    • Head to the Lagoon and look for a grey, triangular rock that seems out of place. As you approach, you’ll hear the now familiar alarm sound and see some text appear around the rock. Use your Pickaxe to free Conga.
  • “Waltz was spied getting a good tan in the Glittering Dunes”
    • Go to the Borderlands and look around to find a clock half buried in the sand under a black and white parasol. Use your Shovel to dig up Waltz.

When you’ve found the last three clocks, head back to Oswald and after taking them from you, he’ll tell you that they now need calming down. To do this, you’ll need to find Olaf and get him to read them a bedtime story.

This is the easiest part of this whole quest. Simply find Olaf and talk to him before heading back to Oswald’s house. Inside, you’ll find all of the now located alarm clocks, along with Oswald and Olaf on the stage ready to tell a story. Listen to the story, then talk to Oswald again.

How to make and use Oswald’s Black (and White) Coffee in Disney Dreamlight Valley

In an attempt to make amends for keeping the residents of Eternity Isle awake with his errant alarm clocks, Oswald decides that the best apology comes in the form of coffee. However, this isn’t just any old coffee, this is black (and white) coffee with a very questionable recipe.

To make the necessary four coffees, you’ll need the following resources:

  • 40 Coal Ore
    • Can be found when mining in all biomes both on and off Eternity Isle, or can otherwise be purchased from Kristoff’s Stall for 5 Star Coins each
  • 28 Pearls
    • Found by digging anywhere in Ancient’s Landing
  • 4 Oswaldian Garlic
    • Provided by Oswald as part of this quest, otherwise unobtainable

Once you’ve got all of this, head to a Crafting Station and make the coffee, before heading out to give them to the following Villagers:

  • Merlin
  • Rapunzel
  • Gaston
  • Scrooge McDuck

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately if you happen to enjoy this kind of thing, the coffee comes with a fun linguistic side effect, causing those who drink it to talk like Oswald. Once you’ve given out all of the coffee, head back to Oswald to discuss what happened.

How to prepare a picnic spot for Oswald and Stitch in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The final step of this quest is to help Oswald make amends for missing brunch with Stitch. To do this, you’ll need to decorate a spot on Eternity Isle in preparation using furniture items which fit the following categories:

  • 2 White Furniture
  • 2 Black Furniture
  • 2 Quirky Furniture
  • 2 Seats

Items can fulfil requirements for multiple categories. For instance, a quirky chair that’s black would count towards three categories.

Once you’ve set up your picnic spot, talk to Oswald again and he’ll give you a Cartoon Parasol. Placing this down will trigger a photo opportunity featuring both Oswald and Stitch, and once you’ve taken your snapshot you’ll be free to talk to Oswald again to complete An Alarming Development.
