How Daze works in Zenless Zone Zero

Dazed and contused.

Daze is one of the foundational parts of combat in Zenless Zone Zero, and knowing how to take advantage of it could be the difference between winning and losing your fights in HoYoverse’s latest action title. In this guide, we will run through the basics of the Daze system, but it’s really all going to boil down to patience and practice in the game.

How Daze works in Zenless Zone Zero

You build up Daze on enemies by attacking them, and when their Daze bar is full, they will be stunned. You can see the enemy’s Daze bar just below their health bar. Once they are stunned, the bar will start to empty, and when it is fully empty, they will once again be able to attack you.

While stunned, enemies are more susceptible to damage, but more importantly, you will be able to trigger Chain Attacks by hitting them with heavy attacks. When you do this, a countdown bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, and you will need to choose between the two off-screen characters to perform the Chain Attack. These can do a lot of damage and will also apply a lot of the attacking character’s attribute element.

Once the Daze bar has fully emptied, you are able to start building it back up again. The important thing to consider here is that it is likely worth having a character who can quickly stack up Daze on an enemy in order to stun them, thereby leaving them open to additional damage from another character during the Chain Attack.

Characters with the Physical attribute will not only do additional damage, but they will also be able to do additional Daze stacks by proccing the Assault debuff, then following up with any other damage type for a period of time.

The other thing to consider is the Impact rating of your attacking characters. Characters with higher Impact will do more Daze, so the perfect combo is a Physical attribute that can do lots of Impact, and maybe even has the Stun fighting style, as that will allow them to do even more Daze build-up. We don’t actually have that combination in the game right now, potentially because of how quickly you would stun everything, but a character like Lycaon, who has a high Impact score and the Stun fighting style, is a great option.

Now, all the characters will build up Daze, so you don’t need to have someone in your squad who really specializes in it, but it is a powerful way to set up enemies to punishing attacks from other characters.
