Six of the top ten channels in the ranking belong to solo acts rather than larger groups and companies. Those individuals include the #1 finisher in the chart, who continues to set viewership records on YouTube.
Chart Toppers
MrBeast is #1 in both the Global and U.S. versions of our Top 50 charts. The North Carolina-based star completed that feat after collecting 499.8 million weekly views. MrBeast’s lifetime view count, which hovers around 31 billion on his main hub, gives him just a fraction of the lifetime traffic of longer-running channels. But his subscriber total is reaching for the sky. The man who was born Jimmy Donaldson has more subs than any other U.S.-based creator, and he’s on his way to the global title as well.
CoComelon – Nursery Rhymes recorded a second-straight runner-up finish in the U.S. Top 50. The California-based producer of kid-friendly fare is thriving under parent company Moonbug. During the final week of August, CoComelon picked up 408.9 million weekly views. That brought its lifetime total up to nearly 167 billion — or about six times larger than MrBeast’s sum. It may take CoComelon a long time to teach its young audience how to count that high.
TheSoul Music FUN is a recently-launched channel that has become a force to be reckoned with in our weekly charts. The latest U.S. Top 50 update has this tuneful channel in third place for the second week in a row. With 394.7 million weekly views, TheSoul Music FUN finished just short of CoComelon while giving itself a nice cushion over fourth place. TheSoul, the global publishing force behind this hub, must be pleased with its early returns.
DaFuq!?Boom! moved up one spot to slide into fourth place in the U.S. Top 50. The channel run by a creator known as blugray has continued to experience internet stardom since bringing the popular “skibidi toilet” meme to the masses. DaFuq!?Boom! added to its strong summer by posting 347.4 million weekly views over our latest seven-day measurement period.
ViralHog rounds out this week’s U.S. top five. The aggregator of popular short-form clips brought its lifetime YouTube total near 21 billion after adding 312.1 million views during the week that was.
Top Gainers
The rise of animation on YouTube Shorts has led us to ask some important questions: Who are the intended viewers for the cartoons that rack up millions of Shorts views? And are those videos appropriate for their target audience?
A meme like skibidi toilet underscores the tension between those two questions. For some people, the fad popularized by DaFuq!?Boom! is an expression of Generation Alpha’s growing cultural awareness. Others balk at the idea of “creepy” videos that are clearly made for kids.
Rocky Rakoon provides another case study. Like many other animation channels in the U.S. Top 50, this colorful trash panda thrives by mashing up multiple short-form trends. In some Rocky Rakoon clips, Korea’s popular “sigma girls” show up. Other videos star U.S.-based creators like Dream.
At first glance, the most-watched short on the Rocky Rakoon channel appears to be a sing-a-long video that wouldn’t be out of place on CoComelon. But it quickly swerves into darker territory — literally and figuratively.
The generous characterization for a video like this is that it’s an intentional attempt to satirize the saccharine fare that dominates YouTube Kids. Like skibidi toilet, Rocky Rakoon’s videos create new ideas by satirizing existing content categories.
But given the size of Rocky Rakoon’s audience, I’d guess that all sorts of people are watching this stuff. The animation hub reached 46th place in the U.S. Top 50 after collecting 98.5 million weekly views, which was good for a 57% week-over-week bump. There’s no stopping this raccoon now. I only hope that those millions of viewers are able to recognize the layers of parody that lie below the colorful surfaces of Rocky’s creations.
