In May 2020, the Dark Souls video game series had generated approximately 27 million lifetime unit sales, up from 8.5 million unit sales in July 2015. The RPG series, which is known for its punishing difficulty, was first launched on PS3 in 2011, with PC ports and current console remasters being added throughout the years. The latest entry in the Souls series, Dark Souls III, was released in March 2016 and has sold over ten million copies worldwide.
