Tetris 99

Tetris 99 is a Battle Royale version of the Tetris game and puts you against 98 other players worldwide for matches. Your task is to clear lines using the various puzzle pieces and doing combos in order to send garbage lines to other players so that you become the victor.

The game started as a free game to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers but then had paid content which added more modes. The game modes are as follows:

Tetris 99 - The standard battle royale mode against 98 players
Tetris 99 Invictus - A battle royale mode against 98 players for players who have come in first in Tetris 99
2P Share Battle - Face off against 97 players with a local player sharing Joy Con controllers
Local Arena - Face off against up to 8 players locally with the other players controlled by the computer
CPU Battle - Battle against 98 AI players
Marathon - The standard Tetris Mode

In March of 2019, the game introduced Maximus Cups, a special competition where, for the weekend, players would face off against eachother in order to earn points. First this was for a reward of My Nintendo Gold Points but, in April 2019, customisation was added and themes started to exist

With Customisation, you have the ability to customise your play area with a variety of different themes. Some are standard but there are many game themes based upon various Nintendo franchises including Mario, Zelda and Splatoon. These are either obtained in exchange for Tickets for completing daily tasks or as the reward for Maximus Cup.

This competition was held to celebrate the release of Pok�mon Legends: Arceus. All players who obtain 100 or more points will have the theme for the rest of time

This theme features a backdrop of the Wild Area in Pok�mon Sword & Shield with icons of various Pok�mon from the Galar Region behind every player.

This theme features a backdrop of the key art from Pok�mon Legends Arceus, alongside themed icons, with Pok�Shi Dolls used for your medals.
