Introducing Brendan Mace

My name is Brendan Mace, I run BrendanMace.com and the Brendan Mace YouTube Channel and this is the story of how I work less than four hours per week

But still managed to build 40K+ leads in less than a year on a shoestring budget.

Having over 40,000 email subscribers at your fingertips means daily affiliate commissions and free traffic anywhere you want.

More importantly though, it’s easy, cheaper than you think and only takes about 20 mins per day to maintain.

Imagine:

  • Waking up on YOUR terms
  • No early commute in traffic
  • No waiting in your car, behind a line of exhaust-filled vehicles
  • No desperately needing a shot of espresso to keep yourself awake just long enough to endure 8 full hours of your employer’s BS.</li

That’s a scary story, that unfortunately, relates to wayyyyy too many of us.

Your life can be different. Mine is. I escaped.

Let me tell ya how…

==>  PASSIVE INCOME <==

The secret sauce to building virtual assets with RESIDUAL income is creating a repeatable business model.

Why hustle for hours to make the same income, when you can almost as easily create something with recurring profits?

Once they’re up and running, it can rake in profits FOREVER.

Just set it and forget it!”
– Ron Popeil, Founder of RONCO – Over $1 billion in revenue

Set what??

…What the F#$K is “it?

In affiliate marketing terms, “it” could be a wide variety of things.

Some of which include: niche sites, Facebook Pages, T-shirt campaigns, YouTube channels, Kindle books, arbitrage and so on…

In this post, we’re building a virtual sales funnel.

Once set up, this funnel will:

  • Provide value
  • Collect leads
  • Generate sales

And the best part, building an email list is creating a virtual property that can net you MUCH MORE than the J-O-B, for a LOT less work.

[Luke] I can’t believe it.
[Yoda] That is why you fail.”
– Star Wars

Ok okay… Last quote, I promise. How could I resist Star Wars?

Anywho, this blog post is not your typical, press these buttons and watch as your bank account explodes with affiliate commissions. NOPE… It ain’t that easy.

That being said, if you break down this formula into its separate parts, it won’t be that hard either.

My “Rocket Science” Two-Step Email List Building Strategy:

  • Step 1: Build a List
  • Step 2: Promote Stuff

You don’t need to create your own product. And you don’t need to worry about specific details, like when to send and how many affiliate products to promote, etc.

Sure, there are some email list building best practices to follow.

But as long as you’re focused on email list building and notifying them about “cool stuff” as it comes out, you will make money with this…

Email List Building 101

The reality is that when you started email list building, you’re not going to have subscriber numbers like these overnight:

aweber email list building tools 1

aweber email list building tools 2

aweber email list building tools 3

self hosted email list

I knew that building an email list was going to be a gradual process. What I didn’t realize is that you can actually make a lot of money while you build your list. But more on that later…

We’re starting at the beginning, which means building your landing page.

For those of us unfamiliar to the term it literally just means a page on your site that is designed to collect email subscribers.

The way it works is simple, your task is to perform an ethical bribe.

An “ethical bribe” in marketing, is a promise of value in exchange for an email address.

  • You get subscribers
  • They get value

What Can You Give Away Of Value?

Chances are, especially if you’re an active reader of Matt’s blog, that you have internet marketing knowledge that would benefit other people.

Your freebie could be:

  • A video
  • An ebook
  • A blog post

Just something that adds value.

A lot of people get freaked out about this step. That’s unnecessary. You don’t need to giveaway a secret marketing method that only you know about.

As long as some people don’t know (or have) your freebie and you’re helping them reach their goals, your freebie is just fine.

Don’t Want To Create Your Own Freebie?

You don’t even have to… If you’re determined to avoid this step, you can STILL be successful. Goes to show that there are MANY ways to make income with sales funnels.

One option is to embed an informative YouTube video on your blog and then send them to your blog for your freebie. You could even add your own affiliate links into your blog post and collect a little extra BONUS income from this strategy.

Another option is to purchase PLR (private label rights) products. What this means, is that someone took the time to create an entire product or freebie and then is selling the rights to brand this product as your own.

The real advantage of option 2 is that you get to position yourself as an authority. By slapping your name on a high quality PLR product, you appear like an expert in your field.

Even though you literally spent only a few minutes to add your name and branding to the packaging.

Here’s a PLR catalog with a lot of top notch stuff: HQ Biz in a Box

Take a look at a couple examples…

Ex. 1 – Email List Building PLR Package

email list building strategies product image

Ex. 2 – SEO Made Easy PLR Package

SEO made easy PLR package

Pretty cool stuff, huh?

These PLR packages are completely DONE-FOR-YOU with sales pages, squeeze pages, free reports and follow up emails.

The point is, you have options:

  • Create your own freebie
  • Steal someone else’s (i.e. YouTube Video)
  • Buy PLR and rebrand it

I have personally used all three options in separate funnels and they all get the job done.

Pick you own plan of attack and let’s move on to the bribing!!

Bribing Cold Traffic With Your Awesome Freebie?

Get your freebie and let’s create a landing page that makes it desirable.

My freebie is a video series that I created on my Two Step Formula. Sound familiar? It’s the exact strategy that I’m giving away in this post. You can see my video series here.

Two Step Formula:

  • Step 1: Build List
  • Step 2: Promote

My Freebie: Video Series on “Make Money Online”

how to make $5,000 a month video series

Now we need to take this (or your) freebie and design a page that promises it in exchange for email addresses.

In marketing, this is called a squeeze page.

Here’s the one I created for this freebie:

how to make $5,000 a month from home

You’ll notice a few things about this squeeze page, but let’s break it down.

First thing…

It’s really simple. Has a headline. An image. An opt-in box.

This simplicity is intentional. Simple squeeze pages convert way better. The more you add to squeeze pages, the lower they convert.

Most visitors from cold traffic have an attention span of 5 seconds or less. They’re like goldfish. They visit your page, make a snap judgement and then move on.

goldfish attention

Hey, I’m not being judgemental. I’m a goldfish visitor, too. Other than Facebook, Amazon, YouTube and a few others. I’ll only invest a few seconds on your page before I decide whether to stay.

You need to grab visitor’s attention and clearly give your proposition of value, but it all needs to be done in a matter of a few seconds. Tough task.

Less is more, but the less is still important. It needs to have curiosity.

Second thing…

A good squeeze page creates optimistic curiosity. It leaves a little to the imagination. Think of the squeeze page as the lingerie to the… well, you know…

In this squeeze page, I tell visitors about a mysterious “Two-Step Formula” that leads to near instant riches.

What 2-Step formula? Is it going to cost me anything?

… I don’t tell them anything. That is, I’m not telling until they give me their email address.

Get it?

Curiosity is a hell of a drug. It gets people in. They have to know, it’s just human nature.

So here’s what you need for a successful squeeze page:

  • Simple (clear to visitors within seconds)
  • Proposition of value (you will make money with this)
  • Curiosity (secret ingredient that significantly boosts opt-ins)

Overall, that squeeze page is averaging a 58.62% Opt-in rate.

The industry avg is around 30-40%

I’m not saying this to brag (well maybe just a little), but the main take away is that a good squeeze page is simple… BUT makes sure that every word counts.

How to Create A Winning Headline

The headline is the most important element on your squeeze page. It will make and break your conversion rate and in general, should be tested and tweaked many times.

But as a starting point, let’s throw one together real quick.

When I was first learning how to create these, I was fortunate enough to stumble across an article from Eben Pagan that revealed a number of powerful headline formulas.

I’m going to share two of them with you now.

Headline Formula #1: The Quick n’ Easy

This one combines three elements into a single headline and it works like this.

How to [insert benefit here] in [a short amount of time] with [very little work]

Example: How to Easily Get 150+ Email Subscribers in the Next 24 Hours

You’ll notice that the example headline doesn’t exactly match the order of the template. But that’s really beside the point.

The key here is that your headline promises an exceptionally good result, in a quick amount of time with very little work.

It doesn’t matter how you order it, as long as it includes all three elements.

Headline Formula #2: Your Problem, my Fix

This one’s pretty simple. Explain what’s going wrong and then hint at a solution.

Why [this typical method] is [not working]… and what to do about it

Example: Why email list building no longer works like it used to… and what to do about it

This one is meant to position yourself as the person with THE solution.

Everyone else is doing the same old thing and it’s no longer working. Let me show you what does.

This headline can be really powerful and it’s obvious why it works so well.

Most subscribers are looking for that one secret or tool that will take them over the edge and finally make money online.

You’re telling them that you have the answer.

Perfect!! We’ve covered headlines. Thanks Pagan.

Thanks bro

Designing Your Squeeze Page

I’m going to be 100% transparent here…

I’ve never designed a squeeze page from scratch, ever. Notta single one. Nada. Zilch.

And honestly, unless you are exceptionally skilled at graphic design and/or do-it-yourself projects, then you’re way better off doing it the easy way.

Outsource it or get an awesome head start

My shortcut to creating outrageously high converting landing pages is WP Profit Builder.

It’s a tool that does 95% of the design process for you.

The ONLY thing you need to do is adjust the text. That’s it.

The way Profit Builder works is simple. It’s a Wordpress Plugin that loads dozens of squeeze templates into your blog.

These templates are already top notch quality pages. So pretty much, everything is done-for-you.

Here’s some examples:

Ex. 1 – High Converter

template 1

Ex. 2 – Bloom

template 2

Ex. 3 – Exotic

template 3

Last template look familiar to you?

It should!

It’s the same template I used to create my current squeeze page as shown above.

You’ll notice that I did very little to change the template. Just clicked a couple buttons, uploaded a replacement photo and edited the text.

All in – it took me about 5-6 minutes of work.

… And my current squeeze page regularly gets over 55% opt-in rates. As a point of reference, the industry average is around 30%.

Not too shabby for a few minutes of my time.

The good news is that you can do this, too. It may take you a bit longer than 5 minutes. But I’d bet within half an hour you could create a real good looking page.

You could also use LeadPages or something like OptimizePress if you already have them to create something similar.

Setting Up Your Front End Money Making Offer

This is where we swing on to step #2… Promote stuff!!

There’s a real sweet spot here. We don’t want to ONLY send promotions – that’ll burn our list into bits.

We need to build at least some kind of good-will with our subscribers.

On the flip side, we can’t only focus on providing value and neglect promotions. That’s where we make the money.

So I’m going to tell you EXACTLY what I do to accomplish both. But before all that, there’s a little $$$ we need to make first.

And that’s right after our visitor opts-in. We need a front end offer.

Why The Front End Offer Is Critical?

You won’t make any money unless you get traffic. In order to guarantee that some eyeballs actually see your landing page, you’ll need to buy traffic yourself.

Sure, getting organic traffic with the whole “build it and they’ll come” approach is a nice fantasy.

And yes, there are some cumbersome ways to get small trickles of free traffic to your squeeze. The reality though, is that if you want traffic – go to the traffic store and buy it!

BUT!!

Buying traffic is pretty darn expensive. And unless we have a larger sized budget, it won’t take too long to burn through our advertising spend. The BETTER way is to include an offer IMMEDIATELY after visitors subscribe.

That way, we can easily pay for traffic and make money at the same time.

If we then reinvest our front-end sales on more traffic, it’s not farfetched to have an UNLIMITED supply of visitors to our page.

It Works Like This

Money ==> Traffic ==> Subscribers + Front End Sales (money) ==> Traffic ==> Sales ==> Traffic ==> Sales ==> Traffic ==> Sales ==> Repeat.

… You’ll notice that the process just repeats. Every time you buy more traffic, you get two things.

  • Sales to reinvest on traffic
  • New subscribers

The sales to reinvest on traffic help you in the short term. Without front end sales, you cannot buy unlimited traffic.

Because you will eventually run out of money and have to wait to make money from your subscribers.

The subscribers have a more LONG TERM value.

These are real people that can/will open your emails for years to come if you do it right.

Building up your list is your primary goal. You do that by investing on traffic. You can only have an unlimited supply of traffic if you make money immediately after opt-in.

What Is A Good Front End Offer?

A good front end offer is a cheap “make money online” product that visitors will buy on impulse.

In general, most people are unwilling to spend anything more than $27. And are A LOT more likely to purchase in the $7-19 range.

Please note that I do not recommend only promoting low ticket offers.

In fact, your ROI (return on investment) after you’ve built a relationship, will be much higher with mid-high ticket products.

The low ticket offer is best for the instant after opt-in. Where subscribers are interested in what you’re showing them, but not willing to empty their pockets.

Make sense?

We need a cheap affiliate product that will get impulse buys.

Here’s one that’ll do the trick-

front end offer

This product was called $200 in 20 Minutes but is no longer available.

  • It costs $9.95 (hits our low-ticket sweet spot)
  • Converts at 5% (reasonable amount of visitors buy)
  • Includes upsells (chances to make sales after initial purchase)
  • Product title geared towards impulse buyers

All-in-all, here’s a product that’s a good fit for a email list building funnel. There are many products just like this one, that can be found at:

Each of those sites has hundreds of “make money online” products, with many income possibilities.

Imagine how much money you’ll make after you have a list of people that are all interested in making money online. This is powerful stuff!

Setting Up Your Front End Offer

First off, you need an autoresponder service. Aweber is top notch and comes with a 30-day free trial, here is my full Aweber review to learn more.

Once you have an account at Aweber, you need to set up your web form.

These web forms can be directly installed on your website, but more likely will be integrated into some kind of fancy tool, like WP Profit Builder.

To get to the sign up forms, click on the “Sign Up Forms” button on your Aweber navigation bar.

web form

Then, click on the “Create a Sign Up Form” button at the top right.

right arrow

Save your form on the first page…

save

This next part is where we put our Front End Offer.

We need to grab our affiliate link. We do this by choosing an offer at Clickbank, Jvzoo or Warrior Plus and then we get our link to the chosen product with our affiliate ID attached.

That way, we make money any time someone makes a purchase with our link.

So get that link and enter it on the second page.

change to custom page

Next, insert your affiliate link. From Clickbank, Jvzoo, WarriorPlus, etc.

Click on save and move to the final page.

On the last page, click on “I Will Install My Form” and then click on the “Raw HTML Version

form code raw

Now, you can just copy this code and place it onto your squeeze page.

This means that, when someone opt-in on your squeeze page.

You’ll:

  • Collect the lead
  • Redirect them to your affiliate offer

In WP Profit Builder, this is really simple.

The editor has a spot on the right-hand side with the title “Form Code”

Paste the code in there and Profit Builder will take care of the rest.

Looks like this:

insert code here

And that’s it. The whole process.

Looks complicated, but it’s all pretty easy once you get the hang of it!!

Getting Traffic To Your Landing Page

Other than cold hard cash, traffic is your main asset. You need it. Buy it.

There are many places to buy traffic, but the EASIEST way is to buy solo ads.

Here’s how it works:

That’s it. Easy right?

Where To Find Solo Ads

There are two main places to get solo ads.

  • FaceBook
  • Skype

My preference is FaceBook. Solo sellers on FaceBook have their reputations on the line with every sale. So if you pick someone with an established rep, you’re virtually guaranteed to get a decent solo.

Finding FaceBook groups that cater to solo ads is pretty darn easy. Just search for “solo ads” and you’ll get a good-sized list of viable solo groups to join.

Here’s the one that I own: https://www.facebook.com/groups/189347897917735/

All of them are 100% free to join.

Find a provider with a good reputation and order your solo.

Here’s a few tips, though.

  • All solo traffic is pretty much the same, other than tier 1% (getting to that in a second). Don’t fall for someone telling you that his traffic is way better. As someone who’s purchased over 100 solos, I can say with certainty that traffic quality is comparable. The difference is how related your offer is to the traffic’s interests. Ask your vendor what their list is interested in. They should be able to tell you.
  • Tier 1% is an important feature. It means how much of the traffic is coming from wealthy countries. Feels weird to discriminate based on global location, but the reality is that US, UK and Canadian traffic is way more likely to actually buy things. Which at the end of the day, is your main goal.
  • Prices are almost always negotiable. I’ve purchased dozens of solo ads and got a discount on the vast majority of them. All you gotta do is ask. Most vendors will drop their prices to close a sale. Solo vendors will be even more likely to offer a discount if you promise to write a testimonial afterwards.

Traffic & Front End Sales… Now What?

Up till now, we’ve covered:

  • Squeeze page creation
  • A traffic strategy that’s self-replinishing

If you keep reinvesting your front end sales into more traffic, you’ll be building your list rapidly.

Getting that big ol’ email list is now a reality.

How Much Money Can You Earn With Your List?

The vast majority of the money we make should come on the back end. In marketing terms, the “back end” means all emails and promotions that occur after the initial offer.

I’ve heard the claim that email lists should make around $1/month per subscriber.

So let’s do some quick math.

  • I have 40,000+ subscribers
  • I make about $5,000 a month (from my list)

Okay, so clearly not $1 a month for me. The reality is that there are loads of variables that affect your income per subscriber.

Just because I show you how to make $5,000 a month in this tutorial, doesn’t mean you will make that – you might end up earning more per subscriber than I do.

There are marketers with higher earnings per subscriber and marketers with much lower. It’s going to depend completely on how you market to them.

The reality though, is that this is about as easy as it gets to make money online. But more on that later.

The Money Is In The Email Sequence

The front end offer enables us to keep reinvesting in more traffic. Which gives us our email list.

The autoresponder sequence is where we make the big bucks.

An autoresponder sequence is a series of emails that are sent to your list after they initially opt-in.

Most autoresponder services, like Aweber, allow you to build it as big and robust as you want. It’s a good idea to have a full sequence ready to go.

Here’s the first 5 emails in my sequence:

my email list building sequence

My Aweber sequence currently has 110 followup emails. And I still keep adding to it.

The sequence MUST have promotions but it ALSO must add value to your subscribers. If you only send promotions, it won’t take long for you to burn through your leads.

Burning a list means that subscribers no longer open your emails or click on your links. It’s a very bad thing. And it’s easily avoidable by adding some value in between your promotions.

My email sequence has a nice balance of value submissions and offers. It’s taken me awhile to put together and tweak, but it’s been worth it.

Extra Tip: Matt also has some good email marketing examples you can use as well.

Want To Get A Head Start?

Aweber allows marketers to share their email sequences with each other.

It’s a badass feature that really does not get used enough in our market.

I’m about to share with you my entire email sequence. All 110+ emails, completely done-for-you.

To get my email sequence, you just need to

You just need to copy the sharing code you get above and place it here:

copy sharing code

Right where it says “Use a pre-defined campaign by entering the campaign code:”

Paste in the code and it’ll upload my entire sequence.

What You Need To Change?

It is not recommended to use these emails “out of the box” so to speak.

There are a few changes to be made-

Change The Branding

These emails use the “Brendan Mace” branding a lot. Especially at the end of many of these messages. Just go in there and edit the text. Personalize to your name (or company).

Change The Affiliate Links

As it stands right now, the links all have my affiliate ID attached.

This is a really simple fix. All of the products promoted are either from the Clickbank Marketplace or JvZoo. Find out which each product belongs to and get your own affiliate link.

This is crucial. You need your affiliate links in there to make the money.

Add Your Own Stuff

Your funnel is (and should be) different than mine. Add your own stuff in here. Whether that’s blog posts, or affiliate promotions. You get to pick where the traffic goes.

Make The Content Unique

If you really want to go the extra mile then you should go through each email and rewrite it so it’s unique.

You don’t have to write them from scratch, just look at what I have written then tweak it so it says the same thing but in slightly different words.

How Much Can I Make Per Hour?

Here’s an email list building MYTH that never gets old. I see questions like…

“How much can I make [in ‘x’ amount of time] from now?”

This myth makes sense, I mean, people are used to working in 9-5 jobs and expect their income to match the time and effort put in.

It doesn’t work like that. For better or for worse.

There are only three metrics that matter!!

  1. How much do you EARN per visitor
  2. How much are you paying per visitor
  3. How much traffic did you buy

Here’s a thought provoking question for ya…

If I told you that for every $1 you gave me, I’d give you $2 back.

How many dollars would you give me?

If you were smart, you’d give me near every dollar you have. Because you’d know that for every $1, you’d get $2 back.

The key is to build a funnel that makes more per visitor than you spend on traffic.

If you can do that, you’ve won!!

Here’s a time breakdown for you:

  • buying traffic takes 10 minutes
  • writing an email to send takes 10 minutes

And BOOM… That’s it.

20 minutes total.

Once you have a funnel in place, you can literally spend 20 minutes per day on this and easily make a full time income. No joke!!

Living The Laptop Lifestyle

Your most valuable currency is not money –  it’s time.

Sadly, the 9-5 job-lifestyle swallows it all up.

After getting ready for work, commuting to the job and taking care of household chores, most 9-5’ers are left with an hour or less of free time.

What’s the point of making money without any time to spend it on?

The real advantage of this “20 minute” routine is that it’ll give you all the money you need to:

  • Pay your bills
  • Take that long awaited vacation
  • Provide for your family
  • Some extra cash to burn on fun

You can start to work and travel living the laptop lifestyle.

Most importantly, though, this business model will give you time.

… What you do with that time is up to you.

But here’s some ideas:

  • Travel
  • Learn a language
  • Fall in love
  • Stay in love
  • Time with your kids
  • Improve your funnel

It’s not healthy to do all work and no play.

You need a balance between the two. And sometimes, you just need to take a break from work altogether and enjoy a well earned vacation.

Here’s some pics my trip to Cuba-

Setting up a passive income business model gives you FREEDOM!

Even while you’re on a beach in Cuba…

Aweber is still sending mail to your subscribers. That means you’re making money 24/7/365. And it only takes about 20 minutes of your time a day to keep it all growing.

One Last Thing…

So far, I’ve advised buying traffic through solo ads. There is a FREE method, though.

Once you get 800-1000+ subscribers, you can start trading clicks.

This works very similarly to buying solo ads. Instead of paying for traffic, you just deliver traffic to a partners page and in turn, get the same amount of clicks back.

 It’s easy.

How Click Banking Works

1) Go to a clickbanking FaceBook group.

– “Clickbanking” is a fancy word for trading clicks. That’s all you need to know.

There’s a group here, here and here.

2) Find 5 FaceBook members with several testimonials

– There are TONS to choose from

3) Ask them if they would like to bank clicks with you.

– Make sure to be willing to send first. If you’re the newbie on the block and you’re contacting established banking partners, its good banking etiquette to send first.

Okay, got some banking partners. Now what?

Your banking partners will give you a tracking link. This is how they’ll know how many clicks you’ve sent to their offer.

You also need to create a “trackable link,” so that you can send the appropriate amount of clicks to their page.

A free service for link tracking is called Bit.Ly. It’s not the best and I’d recommend investing in a better one later. But for just starting out – it’ll do the job just fine!!

 Then it’s easy.

Write up a broadcast email in your Aweber account and include the link to your partner’s offer.

Once you’ve hit the agreed upon # of clicks. Contact your partner and give them a link to YOUR offer.

For Example

You could arrange to bank 100 clicks with 5 partners. Every time you finish sending 100 clicks to a partner, you move on to the next one.

After all is said and done. You’ll have sent out around 500 clicks to your partners.

In turn, they’ll owe you 500 clicks back.

That’s 500 FREE visitors that you don’t have to buy.

If you were purchasing a solo ad, that much traffic would cost you about $200.

Trading clicks with banking partners is a great way to get FREE traffic.

Wrapping It Up

As I’m writing this post I can see that I’m approaching the 5,000 word mark. Holy smokes!

I’ve tried to make this email list building blueprint as thorough as possible.

I honestly believe that anybody reading through this entry, could easily get a funnel started in the next few days.

I have shared all of my email list building best practices with you and you now know precisely how to make $5,000 a month online.

If you find videos easier to follow than blog posts, I’ve created a 3-Part YouTube series right here on this exact blueprint. You’ll see everything over my shoulder as I go through the entire process.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my simple two-step formula.

My last piece of advice is this:

Don’t let small minds convince you that your dreams are TOO BIG. You can do this!!

  1. Ahh I see I guess that make you prove yourself first, but its better to have double optin anyway in my opinion because if you end up mailing your list and a lot of them are duds – that lowers your overall deliverability rate and does long term damage to your business compared to the short term damage of having people not double optin.I don’t think you can make any decisions with the amount of traffic you have sent so far

  2. new users of aweber apparently are not able to anymore…I have been in contact with aweber support and that’s what they told me.in the end i have gone with rapid mailer, which i actually think as long as it gets the emails into the inbox is the best option anyway and its the cheapest option. In regards to this method, i have tried this method, i have had 2 solo ads sent to a fairly good opt-in rate of 36%, but other than that i have had ZERO interest in the front end offer, or any of the other offers in the emails i have sent.currently with 89 subs, i would have thought i would get at least 1 sale, but its simply not happened.im not sure what the next move is, whether i should be throwing more money at it with more solo ads, or cut my losses and move on to something else.

  3. I tried this method out but unfortunately it didn’t work at all well!the big issue is that the email marketing providers require a double opt in…i had 100 clicks sent, 29 subs but only 5 double opt ins, so i can currently only send emails to 5 people…I have tried aweber and mailchimp; both wont allow me to disable to opt in confirmation..i have even had problems with icontact as their policies state “We no longer support business models such as affiliate marketing, pyramid schemes, multi-level channel and/or network marketing opportunities, including, but not limited to personal work-at-home offers promoting “get rich quick,” “build your wealth,” and “financial independence” offerings.”my last option may be to send emails directly, i have seen rapidmailer might be able to help me with this.. but its $67 just to try it out…any other ideas?

    1. Go with get response you can disable the double. I know your pain with the doubles on solos it’s pointless as you end up paying way to much for subscribers. Around $40-55 for 5 is just mental so I suggest going with the single for solos. It’s recommended on many forums or you’re just throwing money away.Double optins are a common issue with solos because most if not all solo sellers just have burnt out list that get saturated with e-mails. Even though you will get duds you can also just clean out the list every few weeks. You are missing out on customers with double optin if buying solos.

  4. Honestly I woul avoid Udimi. It’s based on Safe Swaps as you said and SS was just full of scammers sending fake clicks, pretty much the same goes for Udimi you can find clicks for 20 or 25 cents, but the quality will make you cry. I only recommend to use Facebook, people there are more honest and there are groups where people leave testimonials. For example, “I bought solo ad from so and so and from 500 clicks I made 8 sales.” If you see several of these testimonials, then you want to buy from that person as well, because you know his traffic converts and usually when you buy from people that have good testimonials you will find that they ask more than 30 – 40 cents per click, but these are usually the people worth buying from. All in all be very careful in the IM niche because it’s full of scammers, you can spend hundreds of dollars on solo ads and have only a list of bots to show for that.

  5. It depends where you are measuring your EPC value. For example if you measure it at the start of the funnel, then you can compare oranges with oranges when buying the traffic in the first place. If 100 visitors results in 50 optins and over the course of 90 days each one of those 50 visitors is worth around $2 each , then I have a $1 EPC and can buy 0.40 clicks all day long

  6. Hi Brendan,What could I say “amazing post” you could turn this post into a report and sell it, but I did enjoy it very much the breakdown of the article is well done. Also the breakdown on the squeeze page and email sequence on point.I know for sure I need to come back and go over this again. So Brendan thanks again, and have a great day.Regards.

  7. Thanks for replying Matthew. Granted I’m new to this but a EPC higher that .40 doesn’t seem to make me profitable. If I spend $400 to bring 1000 visitors to my squeeze page and I get an opt-in rate of 30% that’s 300 people added to my list. So I send out an affiliate offer to these 300 people.. Lets “questamate” that the click through rate going to my affiliate is 20% that would mean that my EPC on that 20% (or 60 clicks) would have to be over $6.67 for mean to get into profitable territory.

  8. As I’m a new user of aweber they have not allowed me to disable double opt ins.. Which I think will cause my conversion to be fairly low but nevermind have to make due until they lift my restriction anyway what would you suggest for the confirmation email to say? Currently it’s just set to the default email but I was thinking of saying about them having to confirm to then receive the free product (offered on the landing page).

  9. Brendan,Your reply really helps me to get a clearer picture of how this thing unfolds — which is HUGE! Thanks, man!And brendanmace.com has a TON of great tutorials and info. Very cool!No matter how I do the math, there’s always a loss up front. Sometimes for a couple of months, sometimes for several. Especially when starting out and click sharing, etc. isn’t an option. How do you separate a winner from a loser given the losses up front?I’ve been trying this for a little while, and with these losses up front figured it was a bad campaign, and stopped. Is there a general rule you follow? Like as long as you lose <30% up front in a hungry niche where people are spending money, you feel certain you can make it up on the back end? Also, how often are you emailing people?Thank you Brendan!!

  10. hi can you differntiate between the free offer and the front end offer please. i mean you talk about having a free offer like video course or ebook at the begginning of this tutorial and later on you talk about have a front page offer which i presume will require payment so how do you choose the offer, do we use a free offer to build list and then instantly send a front page offer to them? little confused on that ..also what about adwords traffic or social traffic in general are they good as solo ads in your opinion? thanks for the free tut

    1. [I’m not Brandon, obviously… but]What you’re referring to as a ‘front page offer’ is actually NOT on the front page. It’s a paid/Clickbank product on the Thank You or Confirmation page AFTER you’ve enticed them to join/subscribe with your free PLR offer. It’s the second stage of your funnel. The point of all this is to grow your list; the ‘offer’ is merely an opportunity to make some money while doing that (or a missed opportunity if you don’t).Best, Chris

  11. I like how you have relevant tutorials on the side like conversion and email funnels. Does make deep researching easier. Also, I don’t have too much money on hand, so do you think I can post to facebook groups in the beginning?

  12. Exclusive write up Brendam. Great marketing idea but just want to ask I have use actane, so is there any extra advantage in using aweber

  13. Hello:Great content. I have a doubt. How to send the freebie once the subscriber has done the opt in ?.I do not see in the tutorial how to do it.Thanks

  14. Hey,Yeah all that info is good and dandy but my ISP was never the issue with me. The issue with me was I had a dud list. I had one list that was working fine and another 1 that wasn’t. Aweber indicated to me that it was a problem with the list but never figured out what the issue was. I was just pointing that out because even though those are solo ads you should be getting better open rates. My solos get about a 70% open rate on the first follow up then about 40-50% on the rest thats why I just wanted to point out that maybe your list has an issue like one of mine did.The problem with my list is Aweber always showed the e-mail sent but most of the time they never arrived. The problem was a simple fix because all I needed to do was start a new list but of course Aweber has no list merge so I ended up moving.

  15. Great article. I was searching for such a strategy. I saw that you recomended aweber but I was thinking to use MailChimp. It seems much faster. Have you tried to use it? If yes what are the extra advantages that aweber offers?

    1. Remember that Mailchimp is only free to 5000 subs; after that prices are comparable to other services. At which point Aweber’s backend is much more robust. That being said, I use Mailchimp all the time to save money for smaller business clients, musicians, etc, who will likely never break 5000 subscribers.

  16. A hell lot to read but it realy forces me to try this. This email subscribers thing is, or at least was quite woo scary. I’m not quite familiar with it. You however motivate me to give it a try. Thanks Matthew for the great tips, and most of all thanks for the motivational element in the whole EPIC post !

  17. I’m assuming you don’t use e-mail confirmation with those auto responders? Reason I’m asking is because AWeber has known issues when double optin is turned off. If you turn on double optin and sign up yourself with 3-5 emails I bet they will all come through. Then if you turn double optin off again and do the same thing not all of them will come though. This is why a lot of guys left AWeber a while ago

    1. Hey Shane,Aweber automatically unsubscribes emails that bounce three times. So even if people enter fake emails, they are usually deleted after the third message when they don’t reach an inbox. I highly recommend single opt-in because the amount of opt-ins you get will very significantly decrease with double opt-in. There are many reasons people “opt-out” of confirmation. Either: people are too lazy to click on the confirmation link, it hits the spam folder, or they get frightened by the request to confirm. There’s no way to stop people from entering fake email addresses (other than double opt-in), but I actually find that Aweber deals with this issue fairly reasonably.

  18. Great article but Brendon you should be earning a lot more than $5000 a month with that many subscribers. You might he stuck in AWebers glitches. email open rates a very low and the same thing happened on one of my list.. turned out only about 3 out of 5 emails were actually reaching the subscribers.I then ran a test. I built a new list with the same follow-up series and the second list sprung up to 40-70% Subs were coming from same traffic source I had been usinghere is the differencehttp://gyazo.com/aa6442b592d63c364dfb66399975ad25http://gyazo.com/767ef49ffef3891c64874a70601dabd9Aweber never found a solution and even though my second list performed correctly I moved because I couldn’t risk these types of glitches. You should be making well over $5k a month with the right offers on 40k subs.Unless the subs are very inactive but those open rates a really low.

    1. My 2 Cents:Your deliverability and inboxing rate are determined by your relationship with ISP’s. In less geeky words, if people don’t engage with your emails, your inboxing rate will deteriorate over time. This is the reason why “value driven” email lists, like Matt’s, have very high inboxing rates. It’s also the reason why solo ad sellers have inboxing rates that nosedive relatively quickly. Your damaged relationship with an ISP is not necessarily your fault. In the Internet Marketing market, subscribers are typically on dozens of other lists. This makes them a lot less likely to engage, or even notice your emails. One way to increase engagement is to create emails that encourage opening, clicking and replying. That’s another extra advantage of using Matt’s “Ask Me Anything” email template. It gets subscribers to engage with Matt’s email, and tells the ISP’s that his emails are important. I have also experienced this exact same drop off. I solved it by opening a new Aweber account and starting my relationship with the ISP all over. The reason why my list does not make more than $5k/month, is two-fold.1) Many of my subscribers have been on my list for over a year now. Engagement usually declines over time. Especially when you send out solo ads, and affiliate promotions. 2) Subscribers from solo ads are not as engagement-friendly as other methods. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love solo ads. They’re really easy to buy, and you can make good money from them. The one downside, is that if these subscribers are on a solo ad vendor’s email list, they are probably subscribed to many “Internet Marketing Lists.” This gives you the fun challenge of figuring out a way to stand out. Because their inboxes are usually loaded with emails from many, many marketers. This strategy is a numbers game. The good news is that it’s a fairly easy game, that only takes about 20 minutes to grow and maintain. Hope that adds to the discussion,Brendan

  19. This is a great article. Have a question about the maths.Your lander converts at 58%. That means to have 40k list you bought about 70k clicks @ $0.40/click = $28k Your $9.95 OTO gives 75% commission and converts at 5%.5% of 40k = 2k x $7.5 commission = $15k or ($13k)You earn $5k/month, so by month 3 you’re $2k in profit, and profit from that point forward. Is that about right?

    1. That’s the general idea, Chris. My newest lander converts at 58%, but my first few were not that high converting. Also, it seems overwhelming to think of it like I purchased 70K clicks all at one time. I started out small, reinvested profits, traded clicks, etc. All this reinvestment and click trading kept fuelling my lander with new clicks. The $9.95 is actually 100% commission. Plus, you must also take into account the multiple upsells after the initial purchase. There are two upsells, one of which is $20ish in commissions, the other is around $15. So a single customer can net you up to $45 in commissions. On the flip side, you also have to take into account the refunds for each affiliate sale. Which can be as high as 15%.The real income is made on the back end of your funnel. My emails 1-10 get about 15-20% open rates, while the remaining 100+ hover around 10%. After subscribers complete the sequence. They start to be at a 3-5% open rate. So overall, my 40,000 subscribers have about a 4% open rate. That’s around 1,600 opens per day. If you straight up sold solo ads (or if you promote affiliate offers), you could get .35 per click. So in math terms:1,600 opens = 600ish clicks600 clicks a day = (.35)(600) = $210/day$210/day = $6,300It works out to be a little less than $6,300/month because some of my clicks go to blog posts, YouTube videos, etc.I take a small loss when I send to content, but then I improve my branding and engagement. Which boosts the open rate. So it’s all a big balancing act.Hopefully that all makes sense and answers your question.Cheers, Brendan

  20. WOW!,A very informative and actionable post Brendan. Building a successful business both online and offline is not an easy task at all especially when you’ve not done it before, its not a rocket science though. All it takes is the desire to do it and to follow a proven formula like this one. Once you’re able to put down all it takes to succeed, success will be inevitable. I’ve watched a lot of people build successful Amazon niche sites from start to finish before including Spencer Haws and I’ve come to realize that one common thing that is synonymous with all these people is setting a good goal and the ability to follow it through. Its actually very easy to set the goals though but the main thing is achieving it. I’ve started a couple projects in the past but got overwhelmed along the way and gave up. But with a guide like this, it will be much easier for anyone to achieve a similar result as you. This is my first time I’m hearing of HQ Biz in a Box, I’ve always purchased all my PLR contents from Master Resale Rights dot com and I’ve always gotten value for my money over there. Will check out this one though. Thanks for sharing man.

    1. One of my favourite business (or life) quotes of all time: “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”– Calvin CoolidgeReally appreciate the positive vibes, Theodore. I wasted a few years in the beginning when I lacked the courage to follow through. What you’ll find with this strategy, or similar one’s, is that it’s really not that hard. It just takes continuous, imperfect action. Make it happen!! 🙂

  21. Yes – sorry for duplicate my comments.I want to understand more for free traffic generation.

  22. Great! I don’t want to sign up right now because am not ready to start working on the project, but I guess next week will still be okay

  23. Awesome read! Can’t believe it took me a whole 2 days to finish your 5,000 words article. Honestly, I never thought I’d ever be drawn into email-list-building business but am more than ready to do it. One question though, will the offer (to sigh up for aweber account) be valid next week?

    1. Aweber always (historically) offers 30 days free for new accounts (or almost free – did see them charge $1 for it once several months ago).No time pressure.

  24. Hi , and thank you for this article – I totality going to try it.But can you suggest us with more details about free and paid traffic.Thanks.

  25. Hello and thanks for great article- I’ll tried this. But can you give me more details about generating traffic to my pages.

    1. Not sure if such a thing exists, go on Clickbank and type in Golf – then contact the product owners

  26. That wont work. The one-time use codes were given to me by the actual website that provides the service. In other words, I earn these codes by referring people. Now I want to give them away to my readers. And also make it easier for people to know which are used so they don’t have to keep trying already redeemed codes.

  27. Obviously the next step here is to put your own low ticket offer together for anyone that is reading 🙂

  28. I’d like to give away promo codes which can be redeemed for a free service on my site — say I have 50 codes. Is there a way to setup a squeeze page toa) collect an email before the person gets a codeb) as the codes are taken, they are crossed out so people can see which ones are left (or if they are all gone)?

    1. I recently built a subscription site for a client with Membermouse that utilized a version of this (with their free, 3rd-party MM-Groups plugin). The Groups plugin allows you to assign ‘seats’ to a subscription plan (say, 50) while MM allows you to – among other things – issue coupon codes…For a certain scenario I assigned single-use codes to seats, if that makes sense. It’s pretty cheap overall. MM is about $20/mo, the Groups plugin is a free extension.Though displaying ‘still available’ codes will require some custom code on your end.Best, Chris

  29. Hi Matthewthis is a bit of topicBut could you do a post on sending bulk emails?I just want to send an email to diff website email adresses talking bout my services.I’ve tried to find software to do it but it is complicated.I only want to send around 3k emails a week.Do I really need VPS and SMPT installed in them for this? Please 🙂

  30. Great advice Brendan, this article should have been locked behind the vault and we should have been charged for it, but it’s so funny some people @Sean are so negative, even the advice which is given to them for free they never appreciate it, but in my opinion Breandan and Matthew, this article is worth it’s weight in gold.Best,Ankit Yadav

    1. Well we know that in the IM world if you give someone something for free, they don’t use it/put it into practice. Happens all day every day on this blog

  31. i like some of your thoughts like YOUR PROBLEM MY FIX BUT, i dont like your concept , you are just trying to get peoples email to send hem CRAP, guys dont do that, instead do this1 build a list2 engage with your list and add value to them3 promote products your have tried and you believe in it4 rinse and repeat

  32. So basically you get these new subscribers and within a second your spamming them with junk which you don’t believe in for a quick buck…? So either they fall for it and buy the Shit then realise it’s Shit and never trust you again and by extension never buy from you again OR they recognise it’s Shit and don’t buy but again makes you lose credibility within a second.. Surely the idea is to actually build credibility..

    1. Yeah, you need to keep some sort of credibility, I’ve seen people burn out a list very quick then they try and sell them off. This stuff works but only if you don’t spam them with crap. I prefer the route of promoting higher priced items that I know actually work and I’ve tested myself. This seems to work out better in the long run. I would personally never try sell my subs a $9.95 course that most likely doesn’t work. Each to their own though, still a good method.

    2. The OTO is your way of getting all this traffic for free. Because you’ve only known them a minute (or often less), the offers that convert are the one’s that appeal to impulse. You can, of course, not offer them anything. But then your pockets will need to be a lot deeper, because you won’t be getting your money back right away. My email series includes a mixture of emails with “relationship building” emails and some promotional offers. I get emails daily from people thanking me for my content/emails. I also get emails from people telling me to F*ck off. It all comes with the territory. All I know is that this stuff works. Like Matthew says “there’s more than one way to skin a cat!” Pick whatever way works best for you!

  33. Funny how this popped up in my e-mail right when I was thinking about building my next landing page. Anyhow, I used to do this a lot in the past and I’m just getting back into it today actually. I ended up moving into other things because they worked out better for me but It’s time to get back on the band wagon. What do you think about udimi.com for solo ads? I’m guessing it’s pretty much the same people from the FB groups anyways.

    1. Udimi used to be built-in to Safe-Swaps.com. I loved Safe Swaps for trading clicks and getting cheap traffic. Now, I use FaceBook because there’s no monthly charges and it’s just as easy to find sellers or traders. The main advantage of FaceBook (other than being free) is there are thousands of people ready to buy, sell or trade.Udimi is good – FaceBook is better.

  34. Awesome post. I learnt a lot and confirmed other things I already knew. The only sad thing is that I already have an account with getresponse and can not get your autoresponder sequence in aweber. But thanks for the tutorial Brendan.

  35. Nice write Up. But is it a viable strategy in non IM niches? I don’t see that many click bankers in non IM niches.

  36. Awesome post Brendan. The marketing in this post is amazing as well, gave me some good ideas! You should do an update on how many sales you make through the links people are too lazy or forget to change 😉

  37. Excellent case study. I really liked the clickbanking term and would add it in my campaigns. Very insightful article. Thanks Mathew for publishing it for our inspiration.

  38. Nice case study 🙂 Reminds me a lot of what the guys at DigitalMarketer have been preaching – This stuff works.

  39. Great write-up. My question for Brendon is if it’s easy to find traffic by niche. I’m sure most solo ads sellers’ lists are internet marketing related. But what about those in difference niches? Is there a place that we can go to in order to find sellers by niche?

    1. Thanks!Solo ads are most commonly available in the “make money online” market. I’ve heard of other marketers contacting product owners in a different niche, and asking them directly to sell a solo ad. That’s an idea… I’m really only familiar with the “make money online” market, though.

  40. That was infact a nice case study Brendan, I have tried solo ads in the past, but as you said, i have fallen to the quote saying “My traffic is way better than ours”, but all i could find was cheap traffic which ideally didn’t convert. But i will make use of the resources which you have mentioned and apply for my future solo ad campaign.

    1. Thanks Aspkin! You can find many more groups by searching FaceBook for the keywords: “solo ads, click banking, and ad swaps.”
