Chester M It's a 3 star, but reading some of other reviews that went crazy made me bump it half a star to somehow balance it out lol Film is not bad, not exceptional, just meh, might put some people to sleep, does some things right, good acting, etc It's the very definition of 3 stars Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review Tim M Featuring a well-paced progression of character tensions and suspense, The Rental is a prime thriller for the modern day and a solid directorial debut for Dave Franco. I like that you're left with a lot of questions, and don't really know what's going on. I think the main issue dragging it down is that you're not rooting for anyone. Each character ranges from obnoxious to full on scummy. If there is a sequel, a bit of pathos, for someone, would go a long way. The build-up of suspense during the first hour pulled me in, but the ending really lets the air out of the balloon. The only way the ending makes sense is if Franco is trying to set up for a sequel.
