Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Flight isn't an easy sit. It doesn't offer up comforting answers to the many questions it raises or deal in exaggerated platitudes an audience might find simplistically comforting. George W The first twenty minutes or so are absolutely riveting. I've been told by pilots what the captain does with the jet is not possible--it would break apart--but the CGI is so good it's compelling and completely believable. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/17/24 Full Review Rick C The movie FLIGHT it’s not about a plane crash. The plane crash symbolic of a persons life crashing in on a person. The plane crash itself was what it took to get somebody to face some themselves and their alcoholism . I’ve seen articles about the unrealistic flight sequence. I come from a family of pilots. My dad was a Naval Flight Instructor WWII my Uncle flew 30 missions over Germany in a B-17 retired by 30 years is a colonel in the Air Force, my other uncle was a Corsair pilot World War II: I’m sure they would’ve had criticism of the plane, maneuvers and crash sequence So maybe they could’ve been a little less dramatic with that but as I said, this is not a movie about a plane flight and crash. This movie flight is about Is someone who was in flight from facing his problem. People who have not suffered from addiction or alcoholism or family members who have don’t understand what happens to people and the insidious nature of the disease where one has lost all control of themselves and it is a disease . I think the depiction of that was very dramatically illustrated, but not overly dramatic, because many people have more dramatic stories to tell about how they finally got sober! And unfortunately, most alcoholics don’t get sober and stay sober even with all the help today: though with the Alcoholics Anonymous the 12 steps have helped many alcoholics and other obsessive, compulsive disorders. Sometimes it takes tragic events to break through the denial that allows people to have some kind of spiritual experience, which allows them to get sober! That’s why I really like this movie. For anyone who has dealt with alcoholism, addiction, or family members that have because it is a family disease: I really think this is a must see movie! Also hope many other people will take the depiction as what happens to people and what it takes sometimes for people to actually face their alcoholism and addiction and and take the consequences to get clean and sober. As a note, the Dolly Llama said the greatest spiritual concept and gift to the world to come out of America was Alcoholics Anonymous in the 12 steps. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/10/24 Full Review Soberum An excellent performance from Denzel and the rest of the cast. Some say the film is dated and the treatment of drug and alcohol abuse is flippant but that cannot be further from the truth. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Sydney S This movie is not based on a true story. It's completely unbelievable and almost justifying alcoholism. If someone killed a loved one of mine by flying drunk I'd be mad. Just a really dumb story Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Joshua W Flight has arguably the most exciting landing scene in the history of movies, particularly with the character buildup of Washington's pilot before and during the flight. I have met rock climbers in my life who, like Denzel's "Whip", perform best while under the influence of mind-altering substances. The only thing I can do in those situations is stare in wonderment at how that works and discourage others from putting themselves in a position that their safety relies on the competency of the person in question. The rest of the movie Flight is spent on legality and morality, and here is where it gets both boring and confusing. Confusing in that the message is very fuzzy, despite the definitive ending. For my money and time, a much more interesting movie that covers roughly the same ground is a documentary called "No No: A Dockumentary" about Dock Ellis's no-hitter pitched under the influence of LSD and Dock's journey to recovery after baseball. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/04/24 Full Review Connor S Our greatest actor today in a most important role. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
