Diary of a Wimpy Kid's biggest crime is that Rowley deserved so much better than Gregory just as we the audience deserved a better more compelling film, "unlikeable" protagonists notwithstanding.

Why do people like this series? The main character is a straight up narcissist. He's annoying and obnoxious to watch, then his character 180s to selfless sacrificial hero? I'm gonna need to see a chiropractor for the whiplash.

5.0/10 Being a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, I was deeply excited for this animated reboot and like expected, I was disappointed. The CGI animation was ugly and strange; for a movie like this, 2D-style would've looked better. Another thing that was disappointing is the fact that this film cut off so many important parts of the original book. The film was way too short, it didn't even hit an hour. To me this feels like a disgrace to the books and live-action movies. The voice cast sounds like they were forced to record their lines. The worst part of it all was that the jokes weren't funny, unlike the superior live-action films. All in all, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2021) is not the animated adaptation we were waiting for and feels like Disney's attempt to use their newly acquired 20th Century Fox material.
