Alexandra Heller-Nicholas The Blue Lenses There is a rich ethical murkiness that runs through this film on a near molecular level, and it strives to gets into the meat of what this kind of violent civil unrest and violence does to people. Rated: 3/5 Mar 17, 2016 Full Review David Sims The Atlantic '71 makes so much effort to be suspenseful that it doesn't have much time to get into nuance. Oct 14, 2015 Full Review Ankit Ojha Cinema Elite “‘71” wastes no time, throwing you right in the middle of the action, and never lets go for a single second throughout its 99-minute runtime. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 9, 2024 Full Review Victor Pineyro Seventh Art Studio For a "war" movie, there's few gunshots, yet pure tension. '71 has its best moments when it knows its simple story give space to good moments of adrenaline and chaos. David M Great movie, maybe one of best troubles movies I've seen and brownie points for good Belfast accents as someone from Belfast the Belfast accent is usually cringe but very well done in this movie. Great action, story and good cinematography as well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review SMC G I grew up in the N of Ireland during the Troubles. So many movies about the Troubles are either dumb or hopelessly one-sided. But this one is brilliant. 110% recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Alec B A solid survival thriller. The film's explicit refusal to endorse anyone involved in "The Troubles" ends up becoming a strong statement in and of itself. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Jon Probably the best insight into (The Troubles) war in N.I. I've ever seen & I've spent a fair bit of time there Awesome performances; a must see ! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/21/23 Full Review Ian W A decent watch but far too many silly bits. Oh yes a child runs off with a rifle. Really. The army znd police units run away and leave too young soldiers to the mob. The gunmen chase him and fire around 20 shots and miss him, cliche. A ten year old chases a fleeing gang and saves him... there's an explosion. He's on the run again wounded. He,s found and carried back to a catholics house and no one sees them. An house which is on the 3rd or 4th floor of flats that are an ira strong hold, and no one sees them. His wound is sewn up, oh he s lucky the man spent 20yrs in the army as a medic, really, how lucky, cliche. The British undercover unit want him dead and only have to shoot him with the ira gun. Oh no I'll strangle him, but because I'm a special service soldier I don't even know how to put a strangle hold on, Oh the young provo with two close range bullets in the chest is still alive enough to sit up and shoot the strangler. A film with great cinematic atmosphere spoilt by sloppiness and script that needed to be far tighter. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Gareth v A tense, well edited war movie that takes on the man left behind theme and does it brilliantly. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
