Oxford Climate Awards 2024
The Oxford Mail and Oxford City Council are looking to find Oxford’s climate heroes to reward and celebrate those making a difference in our community.
With the support of businesses, local authorities and our readers we are looking to nominate those individuals or groups who champion environmental sustainability.
Across multiple categories – including innovation in climate action, sustainable business and green transport – we want to discover those incredible people who go above and beyond, culminating in a special awards night at Oxford Town Hall later this year.
The awards aim to honour exemplary efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect natural ecosystems and promote sustainable practises.
The importance of the Oxford Climate Action Awards lies in their potential to inspire and mobilise the community.
Climate change is no longer a distant threat, but a pressing reality affecting lives and livelihoods.
These awards serve as a powerful reminder that each one of us can make a positive impact on our environment.
By acknowledging and celebrating the dedicated environmental stewards within the Oxfordshire community, the awards not only foster a sense of collective responsibility but also provide a platform for sharing innovative solutions and best practises.

The awards will culminate in a prestigious black-tie event on the 17th of October 2024, at the historic Oxford Town Hall. This elegant evening will honour the outstanding achievements of our nominees and reveal the winners across various categories, celebrating their exceptional contributions to sustainability and climate action.

SUSTAINABLE MEDIUM BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award recognises companies with over 10 employees in Oxford and Oxfordshire that demonstrate exceptional commitment to environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, waste reduction and sustainable practises. Nominees must showcase measurable results in reducing their carbon footprint, promoting eco-friendly operations and contributing positively to the local community’s sustainability goals.
SUSTAINABLE SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD

Recognises small businesses with fewer than 10 employees in Oxford and Oxfordshire that demonstrate exceptional commitment to environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, waste reduction and sustainable practises. Nominees must showcase measurable results in reducing their carbon footprint, promoting eco-friendly operations and contributing positively to the local community’s sustainability goals.
INNOVATION IN CLIMATE ACTION AWARD

Recognises the work of individuals, businesses, or community groups that are innovating and exploring new technology and approaches to tackling the climate emergency. This can include zero waste, travel, air quality, food waste, data gathering, and more.
SUSTAINABLE PRIMARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR

Recognises the work of primary schools at educating future generations on climate change. Nominees must showcase their commitment to educating and empowering the next generation of climate leaders to take action. This can be through individual eco groups or whole school action or initiatives on topics such as (but not limited to) air quality, zero waste, travel, and more.
SUSTAINABLE SECONDARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR

Recognises the work of secondary schools at educating future generations on climate change. Nominees must showcase their commitment to educating and empowering the next generation of climate leaders to take action. GREEN BUILDING & DESIGN AWARD

This award honours projects or practices in Oxford and Oxfordshire that exemplify sustainable construction and design. Nominees should showcase innovation in energy efficient design, renewable materials, low impact construction and eco-friendly building techniques. CLIMATE COMMUNITY GROUP AWARD

YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION CHAMPION

Nominees should demonstrate their contributions to eco-conscious initiatives, innovative projects or activism, showing a passion for protecting the planet. CLIMATE ACTION CHAMPION

Honouring individuals in Oxford and Oxfordshire who have shown exemplary commitment to addressing climate change. Nominees should demonstrate consistent, influential advocacy and considerable contributions to climate action, inspiring others and actively working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving the environment and fostering a more resilient, sustainable community.
