‘Octopath Traveler’ series now available on all consoles

‘Octopath Traveler 1’ and ‘2’ have sold over 4million copies worldwide

Square Enix has made both Octopath Traveler games available for all consoles, PC and Xbox Game Pass.

Previously, Octopath Traveler 1 was only available for Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles, while only Switch and PlayStation users could play the sequel, Octopath Traveler 2.

In a surprise update yesterday (June 5) Square Enix announced that Octopath Traveler 2 would be available for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One users immediately, while the original would return to PS4 and PS5. Both titles are also available to play via Xbox Game Pass while PC players have always had access to the titles.

“Since its launch in 2018, the Octopath Traveler series has sold over four million copies worldwide, popularizing the unique HD-2D art style: a striking blend of 2D characters designs in beautiful 3D worlds,” read the statement from Square Enix.

“Both games are a standalone experience set in different worlds with eight distinct protagonists, each with their own stories to explore and Path Actions to use. Players will embark on a grand adventure and steer their own journey, depending on whom they choose to play as.”

To celebrate the launch, Octopath Traveler 2 has received a free update that introduces a new Extra Battle mode to the game. Available after defeating the final boss, the Extra Battle mode lets players test their skills against a number of newly added opponents, including the main characters from the original game.

In a four star review, NME wrote: “Octopath Traveler 2 builds on the first game’s foundations to offer a richer, more fulfilling adventure. Those who found the first game’s slow pacing tedious will find nothing new here, but anyone looking to embark on their next digital adventure can look forward to spending tens of hours immersed in the beautiful world of Solistia and its characters.”

In other news, Bungie has apologised for a number of issues that affected the launch of Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape.
