“Oh, and obviously, there’s no horse.”
Thats quite an assumption, Tony! I, for one, always bring a horse into critical leadership decision meetings for good measure. One can always use a little extra horsepower.
Great post btw.
Leadership Quote of the Day 468
Leadership is mostly the art of doing simple things very well. However, we sometimes make it far tougher than it needs to be.
Captain D. Michael Abrashoff
It's Your Ship
____________________________________________
Note Abrashoff said simple - not easy.
There’s nothing particularly complicated about the concept of giving constructive feedback or having a strategy or being transparent.
But they aren’t always easy to do when the time comes.
But the price of not doing them is paid for by you, your staff and your team’s potential.
So when you’re facing a leadership situation and hear yourself saying “It’s complicated” Stop. Take a breath. You know what needs to be done so go do it.
Background
I have shelves of management and leadership books - most of which I’ve read. But all too often I look at a book and realize I’ve ignored or forgotten its lessons. I’ve tried highlighting, flagging with Post-It notes, writing little summaries - they have all helped but not enough. So I decided this year to again post a quote a day here. Basically I’m using my LinkedIn community to hold me accountable, so thanks all.
The quotes won’t necessarily be the most powerful or my favorite, just one that jumped out at me when reviewing that book.

Concluding Our Week on Leadership in Action: Integrating Vision and Integrity
As we conclude a week rich with discussions on Big Audacious Goals, Just Causes, ethical leadership, and navigating challenges like ethical fading, let’s reflect on how we can bring all these elements together to lead more effectively and ethically.
Integrating Vision with Integrity:
This week has underscored the importance of aligning our ambitious goals with a solid ethical foundation. As leaders, it’s not just about where we’re going but how we get there.
Here’s how we can integrate our learnings:
Commit to Continuous Learning: Stay informed and aware of the best practices in ethical leadership and decision-making.
Set Clear Ethical Standards: Clearly articulate the ethical standards expected in your organization. Make them as integral to your operations as your business goals.
Empower Your Teams: Encourage initiative and autonomy within your teams, but also provide them with the tools and understanding they need to make decisions that align with both your Just Cause and ethical guidelines.
Evaluate and Adapt: Regularly assess how well your organizational practices align with your stated values and goals. Be ready to adapt strategies to better serve your overarching vision.
As we move forward, let’s not lose the momentum we’ve built this week. Reach out to FRAGO22 for guidance on developing your leadership skills or refining your organizational strategies to ensure they are both ambitious and ethically grounded.
Let’s continue to inspire, innovate, and lead with integrity. Share your thoughts or takeaways from this week, and let’s keep the conversation going!

What do you do if you disagree with a decision but still have to move the work forward?
Not surprisingly, it is a conversation that comes up frequently when I'm coaching senior leaders.
You may have been in this situation yourself at some point.
Your leader makes a decision that is not what you discussed or that you might have advocated otherwise.
And now you have to motivate your team to implement strategy or work.
This article from Harvard Business Review highlights some strategies to consider the next time you face such a moment.
It's challenging to sit in a senior leadership position.

Leadership Quote of the Day 291
Behind most instances of the "My business (or group or organization) is different" is fear. It's a fear of a leader to face the evaluation of his efforts and success in terms of the performance of group members.

We’re all undefeated until we compete. And we’re all the best until we’re measured. I don’t think it’s just fear of having our own efforts measured. I think it’s often also a way to avoid having difficult conversations.
If we don’t set standards we don’t have to have that uncomfortable conversation with George about him not meeting them.

Mastering the Fundamentals of Leadership: Building Trust
Just like you wouldn't lean on a rickety and rotten old fence, trust cannot be built with someone who lacks integrity. Without integrity, trust simply cannot thrive.
For every leader, regardless of level or role, integrity is a non-negotiable quality. It's what makes us dependable, reliable, and true to our word.
So, how do we showcase integrity effectively? It comes down to two critical areas:
📍 Area 1: When You Make Commitments
When you commit to something measurable, such as a specific time or date, it's crucial to follow through. Your word becomes the foundation upon which trust is built.
📍 Area 2: When You State an Intention
When you express an intention, like saying, "You can count on me to do this," your integrity comes into play again. What matters most is that the other person's mental picture aligns with yours. Ensuring clarity and mutual understanding is key.
Remember, they'll be assessing your integrity based on their perception, not yours. To build and maintain integrity, you must consistently bridge the gap between your words and actions.
Be the reliable and dependable leader they can trust.
By mastering these fundamentals, we create a solid foundation for trust and meaningful connections.
🌟 How have you embraced integrity on your leadership journey?

As I began to write this, I felt overwhelmed by the number of stories and experiences I wanted to share.
From overcoming the trepidation of leading others for the first time to creating action plans, I had so many ideas that I couldn't choose just one.
I felt paralyzed to the point that I couldn't even put down one word.
So I took a breath, sat down, and started to write without any pretext just to see what would come up. And then the words started to flow.
Beginning to write this is not unlike the beginning of anyone's leadership journey. There are so many questions and ideas to explore that just thinking about them often takes the place of doing something about them.
And while considering what to learn about leadership before moving into a leadership position is helpful and wise, at some point we have to act. Without action, the wish for our future remains an unrealized dream.
If we're not acting, then wherever we start is good a starting point.
But we start small and we take one thing at a time so as not to overwhelm ourselves. We look for the answer to just one question or explore just one idea with another person.
From here, we start to gain perspective and direction, and we let the momentum build.
Before we know it, we're looking back along our leadership path and wondering how we got so far. And it all started with one small action.

📕Sharing a bit from my latest book read....
✒️"Heart-Centered Leadership' means having the wisdom, courage and compassion to lead others with authenticity, transparency, humility and service. – Author Susan Steinbrecher
✒️Encouraging #emotional connections between managers and employees is the key to better performance and improved #employeeengagement . In essence, heart–centered leadership is not a singular gold standard or an ultimate pinnacle that only a rare few can achieve. It lies in your ability to stop, go inward, and reflect on the course of action you know is the right one, rather than succumbing to external pressures and circumstances.
✒️#leaders can move mountains when they understand that they share the same universal needs that their associates do. People want to be valued, listened to, appreciated, respected, involved and connected. They wish to have meaning in their lives. At the very least, people want to maintain their level of self-esteem and, ideally, enhance it.
✒️By embracing a heart-centered approach to leadership, you will be in a more powerful position than you could possibly have imagined. After all, what can be more powerful than motivating an associate to go the distance for you and your organization, because he or she is inspired by you and respects you so highly? More importantly, you will genuinely and deeply touch the lives of others by your actions.
