"Baby steps" to success! Led by Dr. Christine Garner, a dedicated research coalition will implement the "VIBRANT MOMS" project to address health disparities in six Panhandle counties, collecting essential data to tailor interventions. TTUHSC researchers have received a $1.47 million NIH grant to combat rising preeclampsia rates and maternal mortality in Texas. Recent studies reveal Texas's alarming maternal morbidity and mortality rates, which surpass the national average, largely due to maternity care deserts, especially in the Texas Panhandle. Preeclampsia, a significant contributor to maternal deaths, has surged by 37% since 2017, posing immediate and long-term health risks. This initiative promises to revolutionize maternal health care in Texas and potentially set a nationwide precedent. Read more about the grant and research here: https://lnkd.in/gqY3aHah

👨👩👦👦🎈Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) isn't just an adult issue. In fact, it affects the youngest among us, too. PAH in the pediatric population is rare but no less devastating, with an estimated incidence of 4–10 cases per million children per year and a prevalence of 20–40 cases per million children. Let's join hands to shine a light on this often-overlooked aspect of PAH. Together, we can ensure that every child, regardless of their health challenges, receives the support and care they deserve. The feeling of isolation and accompanying psychological burden due to a harsh diagnosis is even more pronounced in the pediatric population. That’s one of the strongest reasons why everyone should join the movement to raise awareness and make a positive impact in the lives of these brave young patients. 💪🙌⤵ Let every breath in support of the PH community count! ➡www.worldphday.org ➡www.phaeurope.org ➡www.belaircenter.info #WorldPHDay2024 #WeBreatheUnited #WPHD #pulmonaryhypertension #UnitedToCurePH #UnitedForDiagnosis #awareness #patientcare #patientempowerment #UnitedForCure #PHAEurope #accesstocare #patients #patientempowerment Hipertensión Pulmonar Argentina PH Belgium - Pulmonale Hypertensie vzw Hipertensión Pulmonar España ORG Pacientes Fundación Contra la Hipertensión Pulmonar Asociación Nacional de Hipertensión Pulmonar ANHP Stichting Pulmonale Hypertensie / PH Association the Netherlands PH Serbia AIPI Italian Pulmonary Hypertension Association Fundación Ayúdanos a Respirar

5 myths about women's health. Did you know: if you belong to a medical aid in South Africa such as Fedhealth Medical Scheme, you’ll receive a screening benefit that covers a range of women’s health screening tests, such as pap smears and mammograms every two years if you’re over 45, which are paid for by the Scheme. https://lnkd.in/dAqsSQc5

Migraine is one of the most debilitating neurological conditions, yet the vast majority of patients are not accessing appropriate treatments. In Australia, migraine costs an estimated $35.7 billion per year due to missed work days, access to health, burden on families, and more. Shockingly, less than 10% of patients are accessing appropriate care. The statistics are very telling; 71% of migraine patients are female, 86% are working age, and 7.6% have disabling chronic migraines. These patients account for 23% of costs, with $16.3 billion in lost productivity, $14.3 billion in healthcare costs, and $5.1 billion in other costs. Let's prioritize migraine and headache care to provide better access to appropriate treatments for those who need it. #MigraineAwareness #NeurologicalConditions

🌟 Today's inspiring quote comes from Grit alumni Heidi Davis founder of identifyHer 🌟 "Communities and countries and ultimately the world are as strong as the health of their women." identifyHer is a digital health company providing predictive health services for women going through the menopausal transition and beyond. There are no strategies to specifically address the healthcare needs of women, despite presenting different symptoms and prevalence rates for some chronic diseases to men. Women are underdiagnosed, receive sub-optimal care, are underrepresented in clinical trials and can be twice as likely to suffer adverse events from drugs. There is little consideration to the effect of menopausal symptoms on future health risk and, collectively, this results in women living ~20% of their lives with chronic disease. identifyHer will use biosensor enabled AI to achieve our ambitious mission: 'increase the number of DISEASE FREE YEARS to allow women to live HEALTHY, LONGER' #GritCohort #GritAlumni #Inspiration

“The global burden of retinoblastoma (Rb) is one in 15,000-18,000 live births, which equates to 8000 new cases worldwide each year. The global disparities in Rb outcome represent a paradigm of health inequality worldwide. In high-income countries, Rb is considered a curable disease, with survival rates reaching nearly 100% and management focussing on eye salvage and saving vision. However, these positive success rates embody less than a tenth of Rb cases worldwide. Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), mainly in Asia, Africa and Latin America, comprise more than 80% of children with Rb, with survival rates reaching 50% or less in these regions. The Global Retinoblastoma Study Group, led by Ido Didi Fabian has highlighted the key differences in survival outcomes between economic levels across the world, demonstrating a near 17-times difference in survival rates between high-income and low-income countries. This considerable difference calls for worldwide action to try to achieve health equality and improve outcomes for these children.” Check out our latest article in Eye News Marcia Zondervan MBE
