In those early days of returning, had I not had flexibility, I would have severely battled with mum guilt and reduced confidence. My ambition would have driven me to be the BEST in all areas of life- whereas in reality I just needed to do the best I could. Thankfully my boss and HR team wanted to try a new blueprint for returning parents - a job share. ✅ The company retained my knowledge ✅ Gained Pam's new insights ✅ We both continued developing outside of work ✅ The company is putting words into action on inclusivity Whilst job shares aren't easy (particularly building new and complex systems of work) Pam and I instantly committed to being completely open, challenging and kind to each other. Supported by Emma Robinson ACC ensuring we had nowhere to hide in coaching sessions. Improving and increasing mental health comes in many forms. For me, balance at a time when I needed it most was key. Most people who know me, know that I have identical twin daughters. In Toronto my daughter Hailey is the owner of The Idea Hunter. But very few know Brittany O'Bright or what she does. Britt moved to Miami 2 years ago and was promoted to Senior Shopper Marketing manager overseeing Grey Goose vodka and Bombay Gin and she has never looked back. She LOVES her job. Now how many times do we hear that these days? But this is not a story about Brittany, it's a story about Bacardi and why she loves it. Life is all about memories and experiences, right? In some time of reflection, I have compiled some of the best memories and experiences during my time at Express to share with you. When I first started at Express, I was brought on (thank you Vaughan Staros) to lead a customer experience program that was centered around Express' Brand Purpose. 'We Create Confidence. We Inspire Self-Expression'. With that, the experience was all about bringing our Styling Community together, and our associates, were the second largest component to that community (second to our customers). While leading this program, it allowed me the opportunity to meet and engage with amazing leaders throughout the country. I was able to build and lead immersion into the program, host change management sessions, lead store calibration visits, analyze the program performance, and most importantly, measure customer loyalty and associate feedback. I loved every second of that role, and I was able to immerse myself deeper into the brand, learn best practices, and take on new opportunities, such as leading Marketing Brand Events, hosting Associate Incentive Trips, and launch Customer Experience tools to drive consistency. While I was at Express, I also co-led the Professional Women and Allies Community Group and had the honor of moderating a panel for International Women's Day. As I mentioned in a previous post, that conversation was grounded in mentorship and it left me feeling inspired to be working with such an amazing community. And thank you, to my fellow leads Heidi Tharp Jennie Goff and steward Megha Patel! I was promoted last August (while on Maternity Leave!) to Senior Manager, Store Experience. My role grew into leading half of the Store Operations team focused on Field Communications, Learning and Development, Stores Strategy, Incentives, Recognition, Customer Experience and Initiatives. As a team, we led the Stores' Strategy, made significant improvements to the associate experience (through communication and immersion), and drove a store-centric culture through providing a feedback loop and store visit program. This Spring, I project managed our Field Leader Meeting where we brought our ELT, Regional Directors (Lee Vuolo Tracy Sundermeier Michelle Robinette, SPHR) and District Managers together to talk strategy for 2024. We delivered a virtual experience that left the audience engaged, clear, and ready to reboot the new year. And lastly, I would be remissed if I didn't acknowledge the amazing team I last worked with. A culture of fearlessness, family, and founders is the secret of the Bacardi’s success. It was a wonderful experience of hearing Mr.Vinay Golikeri (MD of “Bacardi”). He gave some enlightening details regarding the company's culture and level of accomplishment. One of the key points that “Bacardi” stressed during the conversation was the importance of its employees. Instead of calling their personnel "employees," they refer to them as Primos, which is Spanish for "brothers" or "cousins." This kind of family bonding in company is essential for a robust culture. “Bacardi” likewise bases their business on the principles of Fearlessness, Family, and Founders. “Bacardi” is dedicated to enhancing the brand's legacy. This requires establishing long-term decisions and investments that will benefit the company in the long run. Mr. Golikeri also shared his thoughts on the business world as a whole. He stressed that there are other reasons to join a company besides just to work, these include exposure, culture, and potential legacy. He also enhanced to get outside of their comfort zones, take chances, and absorb diverse perspectives. He also said that a company become richer when they have a diverse range of experiences and that we should follow our careers in a zigzag manner rather than a straight path. Mr. Golikeri concluded by highlighting the importance of perseverance and strength. He claimed that each of us must have clear objectives, trust in our groups, and grant authority to those in our vicinity. So today was my day two of a retail safari reconnaissance to London. While yesterday was focused on city centre London observing best in class retailing in high footfall retail areas, day two was a different vibe. I wanted to visit retail outlets in a more suburban setting and I wanted to observe the learnings with another shopper expert and friend Flick Collingwood 👩👧👧(she/her/hers). Given the realities of working parenthood on summer holidays we headed to Freeport Braintree with little people in tow and looked at how well set up Freeport was for a family shopping experience, one which needs to cater for the needs of the shopper but also the ‘hangers on’. Yes the little people who can make it break your shopping trip, dictate the time you actually get to shop there and determine how enjoyable it was. A huge thumbs up to this retail village for some of the best in class retailing which we encountered today. The Haribo store’s #cx in Freeport stood out as simple but effective world class retailing, with excellently executed experiential built in. Lots more to share on this in the coming weeks with such insights around why as retailers, it’s so important to differentiate between the consumers’ needs and the shoppers. As I celebrate my birthday today, a lot of career self reflection is going through my mind. I would love to hear your thoughts on the choices you’ve made and the key insights you’ve had. 📚⚽️1) My football aspirations were high, but realizing I’d never make it to the World Cup, I decided to study and focus on a professional business career. I was fortunate to get into the Stockholm School of Economics, which has been instrumental in shaping my approach to business and strategy. Not to mention all the people I met there who many I'm lucky to call my best friends today. 💡Key insights from my studies: Enjoy your time, be part of many student activities and associations and find the balance between studying hard while having fun! 🗽🌎2) Joining Absolut Vodka in New York was a quick and amazing wake up call to real life. Working under the Pernod Ricard Umbrella across the world taught me the essence of being bold in your sales and marketing tactics, while creating the most amazing company culture. 💡Key Insights: Be open to move abroad, it will accelerate your personal and professional development. 💙///3)Being part of Adidas, whose core belief is that sport has the power to change peoples lives, was a dream come true and I was privileged to lead a dedicated team across Nordics and Southeast Europe, fostering growth and achieving remarkable milestones together. 💡Key insights: Follow your passion, imagine being able to talk about your genuine personal interests in business meetings, it makes work so much more fun! 🚀4)I’ve always wanted to be part of a startup or scale up. So when The Giving Movement offered me the role as their Chief Brand Officer it was an easy choice. Transitioning to the startup scene In Dubai has been a fulfilling chapter. I have so much belief in the potential in this region and I’m proud of my team's significant brand advancements. 💡Key Insights: Dare to take some risks in your career but make sure you do your due diligence of the company or founder before jumping ship. 🙏🏽So as I summarize my journey, this birthday is all about gratitude - for the mentors, colleagues, and friends who’ve been part of my story. How did Leap Day become a launchpad for transformation? Yesterday was a day of incredible fortune, as I had the privilege to facilitate a workshop for Pernod Ricard This French powerhouse has grown globally, boasting 19,000 employees and stewarding iconic brands like Ramazzotti, Havana Club, Absolut, Chivas Regal, Malibu, and Lillet. The recipe for an unforgettable workshop day included: 🏰 An inspiring location dubbed “Chateauform,” a facilitator’s paradise. 👏 A dream team of facilitators: my two besties Matilda Verney and Audrey Thouvenin complemented by 3 highly skilled in-house facilitators. 🥳 Precious moments to chat with participants, diving deep into the group’s history and the project’s significance. The true magic, however, stemmed from the collaboration and co-creation with Pernod Ricard’s exceptional change-management team and with Alexandre JUDGES ( btw we met via #linkedin) who trusted me with this contract, since he couldn’t make it that day..🙏🏻 thank you!! Leap Day marked the beginning of a major digital transformation project aimed at shaping the future of the group. We filled the day with impactful activities designed to: ✨ Foster cohesion among team members. ✨ Ignite collective intelligence. ✨ Lay a solid foundation with aligned objectives and goals. Costa Moments: In my role in the Middle East Region, leading a multicultural team with over 10 nationalities, diverse languages, races, religions, and experiences presented a unique challenge. Building a unified team with a shared vision demanded a foundation of trust, inspiring the cultivation of a culture where team members freely communicated and provided instant feedback, be it positive or constructive. Our secret phrase was 'Costa Moments.' In our building there was a Costa Coffee shop, serving as the backdrop for a unique initiative. Any team member could extend an invitation to anyone in the office for a 20-minute session by simply saying, 'Can I have a Costa moment with you?' The rule was straightforward – the receiver committed to the moment, listened to feedback, and expressed gratitude for the invaluable gift. As for the giver? Their feedback not only aimed to enhance the receiver's effectiveness but also contribute to a positive team spirit. Oh, and they had to pay for the coffee. This initiative went beyond strengthening team spirit; it enriched team collaboration. A memorable Costa Moment I received, came from our young receptionist, who shared how my greetings each morning as I entered the office, set the tone for the entire office for that day. This feedback transformed my daily approach, ensuring I entered the office with high energy and a positive spirit. Though I lost the count of coffees consumed over the years, what we gained was immensely valuable – a workplace people enjoyed being part of, breaking down functional and hierarchical barriers, ultimately uniting us into a resilient and powerful team helping us achieve our ambitious goals. #TeamBuilding #Trust #Communications #FeedbackCulture
