When you understand the FP&A process, you start to understand FP&A’s purpose. With FP&A you are… Taking all of the data across the company. Organizing it into proper accounting. Showing how changes in the business are reflected in the financial results. Identifying trends between results and business decisions. Communicating all of the trends clearly so people understand. Getting agreement across the business about how to maximize or minimize each trend. Estimating the costs and benefits of everything needed to accomplish changing the trend. Giving everyone instructions, resources, timing and targets to complete the accomplishment. Evaluating if the team actually executed based on the strategic plan. Adjusting the plan based on actual results. Recycling the process from the beginning. …Now you understand the process. Do I still need to explain the purpose?
