We are excited to welcome Jenna Fossell, PT, DPT, to St. Luke’s, now part of Aspirus Health Health! Jenna earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from The College of St. Scholastica, and is board-certified by the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy. Specializing in pediatric rehab, Jenna's journey into physical therapy was inspired by childhood experiences with therapy. “My grandma used a wheelchair for mobility and frequently attended therapy sessions,” she said. “As a child, I often accompanied her to these appointments and thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the clinic. As I grew older, I saw how much independence she gained from physical therapy, and I realized I wanted to make a positive impact on individuals' lives, just as her physical therapists did for her.” Jenna's philosophy of care focuses on guiding individuals toward greater independence in movement, enabling them to confidently navigate their environments. She encourages patients to keep moving, as movement fosters growth and allows participation in life's enjoyable activities. Learn more about Jenna: bit.ly/3WQ8aiB #StLukesProud #PhysicalTherapy

Proper wound care is essential for quick and effective healing. Here are some basics to keep in mind during #WoundCareAwarenessMonth from Maijaliisa Kaarto, RN, BSN, CWOCN, Clinical Supervisor at Aspirus St. Luke’s Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center. “Use mild soap and water to clean minor wounds, then rinse and dry well,” she said. “Saline solutions are great for cleaning out deeper or larger wounds. Also, don’t use hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, or iodine as they can be too harsh and slow the healing process.” Essential supplies to have on hand include gauze and tape, hydrogel (saline gel) to maintain moisture balance for healing, and Bacitracin to help prevent and treat minor skin infections. “Typically wounds will heal in one to three weeks with proper care,” said Maijaliisa. “However, if a wound hasn’t healed in 30 days or if you’re experiencing increasing pain, redness, swelling, foul odor, or a change in color, you should seek out additional care.” To schedule an appointment, call our Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center today at 218.249.5203.
