Construction is underway for eager students, staff, and faculty at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School in Northampton, MA 🌲🌾 Nestled in the green landscape of the Pioneer Valley, Smith Vocational is a small sanctuary for students from over 50 communities in Massachusetts, as the country’s oldest agricultural high school, and one of only four currently in the state. After a devastating fire in 2022, the school needed a new facility to house their Horticulture and Forestry programs. SMMA is proud to serve as the architect of this new facility, designed within a tight budget and inspired by its local surroundings, using local wood to highlight native species. To enhance learning opportunities year-round, the new design includes a high turret that facilitates indoor climbing for forestry students, allowing them to continue their practice regardless of weather conditions. SMMA is thrilled for the Smith Vocational community and ready to help bring this facility to fruition in preparation for the ribbon-cutting in 2025. 📍Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School General Contractor: Schoolhouse Construction Services LLC OPM: Keiter #Groundbreaking #PioneerValley #SchoolDesign #Forestry #Horticulture

#Wildlife 🇳🇵 ... perhaps much needed development all dream ... hopefully get done though hard to believe Prayers 🙏🙏🙏 via WWF UN Environment Programme UNESCO Abhaya Raj Joshi ....#Nepal’s leading #civilengineering and #forestry institutions are #collaborating for the first time to develop new courses for their students to #bridgethegap between #infrastructuredevelopment and #biodiversityconservation. Rapid infrastructure development over the past decade threatens Nepal’s #forests, crucial #habitats for #wildlife like #Bengaltigers and greater #onehornedrhinos, posing risks like road kill and habitat fragmentation. Officials from the Ministry of Forest and Environment and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, most of whom are graduates of the two institutions, often clash over development priorities, leading to back-and-forth accusations of “anti-development” and “anti-nature.”... https://lnkd.in/eBWvtWmQ

Learn the latest news about Tolko Industries!
One of the biggest strengths of our University of Alberta Forestry Program is the tremendous support we get from the broader forestry community here in Alberta. The reality is that our program would not be as relevant or as influential, on either the teaching or research ends, without these partnerships. Just another example of this great support is the field gear we received yesterday from Tolko Industries and the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta. A complete set of forestry field and safety gear will be given to each of our incoming forestry students at Introductory Forestry Field School which starts next weekend. This includes a cruise vest, hard hat, compass, clinometer, diameter tape, personal first aid kit, plant identification book and much more. What a great way to welcome students to the program and to stress how important safety is in forestry! Big thanks especially to Allan Bell and Travis Kiel from Tolko for making this happen. Students will now be ready for Field School and summer jobs. It is collaborations like this that make our program so strong. Thanks!
