I often get asked how to "break into" product management, a question I, too, have asked many as I transitioned into product management. That said, here's what I've realized: ⭐ Reframe the narrative from "breaking into" to "becoming". ⭐ Focus on becoming a product manager right where you are. Seek opportunities to engage in product-related tasks/skills in your current role or through side projects. ⭐ Know that every experience, project, and skill (existing or newly acquired) contributes to your evolution. You just need to be able to tell the story of "how." ⭐ This change in the language we use to describe our goals is the difference between a destination and a journey, being job-minded and career-minded. A mindset that will benefit you in the long run.

Starting my journey in product management was very exciting, but initially I got enamoured by the role and lost track of my actual KPI's. Here are five mistakes I made which lead to creating subpar products- 1) Ignoring User Research: Not taking user feedback seriously. Skipping user research can lead to building solutions that no one needs. 2) Overloading the Roadmap: It's exciting to add a lot of features on the roadmap. But overcommitting can lead to missed deadlines and overwhelmed teams. Prioritising is key here 3) Lack of Clear Success Metrics: Without clear success metrics, measuring the outcomes become impossible. Define what success looks like for each feature and measure against it. 4) Not Communicating Effectively: Product management is a lot about alignment. Failing to communicate your vision and decisions can lead to confusion and misalignment among teams which will have further long term repercussions. 5) Fearing Failure: Failure is a part of the journey. Don't be afraid to experiment and learn from mistakes. Every 'no' or 'mistake' is a step closer to a 'yes' and success. Learning from other's mistakes is the fastest way to grow and I hope all the junior/senior product managers become cognisant of these facts and try their best to not replicate them :) #ProductManagement

It often feels like there's a new trend or technique emerging every other day, which can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. While it's tempting to chase after every shiny new skill or methodology, spreading oneself too thin can detract from making meaningful progress. My charge to fellow Product Managers is simple: prioritize. Identify the skills and methodologies that align most closely with your current objectives and the needs of your organization. Rather than trying to master everything at once, concentrate your efforts on honing those areas that will have the greatest impact on your success. Remember, it's not about keeping up with the latest trends for the sake of it; it's about equipping yourself with the tools and knowledge necessary to drive results. By focusing on what is truly important, you'll not only stay ahead of the curve but also ensure that your efforts are aligned with your goals. So, the next time you find yourself overwhelmed by the endless skill bubble, take a step back and assess what matters most to you and your business.
