This is beyond amazing! This is an opportunity for students with or without DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) or TPS (Temporary Protected Status). The deadlines are coming up very soon, so take advantage. If you know anyone who would benefit from this scholarship opportunity, repost, tag, screenshot and repost on other social media platforms. *I’m delighted to help anyone through this process or connect them with a mentor.* When I was a senior in Little Village World Language high school, I applied to the National Scholarship form TheDream.US. With much hard work, dedication, revisions, and support from my advisor, Kin-t Rios, from the Enlace Avanza and Unisono program, I got in. This was my first ever recognizable accomplishment and was granted financial assistance to cover my bachelors degree, plus some additional money for books📚 I am now a Junior at National Louis, studying Applied Behavioral Sciences (ABS) and a Dream.US scholar. I’m grateful and content with my college journey, because I know I’m not alone navigating life as an undocumented person, being first-generation, questioning and advocating for immigration reform. Without a doubt, I would have struggled 1000x more had it not been for the amazing founders, mentors, and partnered colleges navigating this scholarship. Who can say they are debt free navigating 4 years in college? This is a rare case, but trust me, when you find mentors that are willing to invest time in your education and scholarship applications, you can definitely make it. It’s okay to reach out for help with these transitions, especially when you have a legal status that you feel will hinder you from succeeding or that you don’t quite understand. It also totally depends on how invested you are in your education. How can access to higher education impact your quality of life and if so, why do you think so? Does having an undocumented legal status or being a DACA recipient impact your chances of being successful with your degree? *It’s life changing having someone that knows the legal system and understands it, that can translate it to students in high school.* *Share your story and own it. Make revolutionary changes in the educational system, because it’s possible. One moment, it’s an idea. The next, a possibility. Next thing you know, you are nurturing that idea💡, mobilizing, networking, phone banking, curating events, giving free-food to the community, giving speeches, being applauded/congratulated, creating a social media hashtag/thread, running your own business, being part of an uplifting, engaging community that encourages your passion, and values you. Hey, the possibilities are endless, but don’t let it just be a possibility. Make it happen.* #TheDreamUS

TRIGGER ALERT - I am fed up and honestly quite surprised at all the opposition to the suggestion of a proposed cap on increased international student intake. When the students were homeless and sleeping on the streets in Nova Scotia and Scarborough thanks to colleges taking 3 times their capacity --I DID NOT SEE ANY COMPLAINTS OR PROTEST from Colleges and Institutes Canada | Collèges et instituts Canada or from anyone in International Recruitment from the 1000s of colleges mushrooming out of thin air across Canada. When International Students were eating out of Food Boxes and were the biggest recipients of Soup Kitchens standing in long lines because they couldn't afford to buy food - I did not see a whimper from anyone 🤷 When international students are commiting suicide because they are easy prey for fraudsters and scammers - I didn't see any support or a helpine set up for these international students THERE ARE 5 DEAD BODIES being sent back to their home country every month from a funeral home in Brampton with bodies coming from as far as Nova Scotia They were not able to take the corrective action when colleges were abusing their power and taking advantage of powerless students No action taken when colleges don't care about students missing from their classes!!! 🤷 ALL THESE STORIES HAVE BEEN COVERED EXTENSIVELY BY THE MEDIA AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CORRECTIVE MEASURES There were no protests TO STOP COLLEGES FROM GOING OVER THEIR APPROVED CAPACITY 🤦 All they need to is to rent another empty class room and throw some chairs in it 🙂 or even Better RENT OUT A MOVIE THEATRE 🤷 ALL THIS IS ACCEPTABLE But what is not acceptable is putting a CAP ON THE NO: OF STUDENTS which has seen a 60% increase since the last 5 years, the first time in the history of Canadian education Everyone knows you can't build new houses in 6 months in Canada but there are 500,000 new international students arriving every 6 months in Canada Students pay 4 times the fees and get treated as third class citizens. Why don't we use some of the 21 Billion dollars we get from international students and build better support services first, before we decide to increase the student intake. 🔥Why don't we shut down colleges that don't have basic facilities and are scamming students?🔥 🔥Why don't we shut down colleges where 60% of the students don't get a job in their field of specialization?🔥 Colleges and Institutes Canada | Collèges et instituts Canada If you care about international students so much, please ensure each of them are able to launch their career within 6 weeks of graduation and have a roof over their head!! Colleges and Institutes Canada | Collèges et instituts Canada statement on the latest sector rumblings on international education in Canada. Thank you for your continued advocacy! The housing issue is complex and multi-layered and requires innovative solutions that go beyond capping enrolment growth.

Our new report, “Unlocking Potential: Enhancing Community College Services for Immigrant and Refugee Students,” was featured on The Chronicle of Higher Education. "A survey conducted this summer by Upwardly Global and the National Council for Workforce Education, with support from the Lumina Foundation, found that about 80 percent of respondents said their community college must improve its capacity to meet the specific needs of immigrant and refugee students. Thirty percent reported that their institution had no programs to support recredentialing and career re-entry for such students." Supporting the post-secondary education of Indigenous girls in Canada through the Forgirlsake, Inc. and Indspire partnership is important for several reasons: It helps address historical injustices and disparities in education that Indigenous communities have faced.
