This years’ theme is 'Inspire Inclusion', at Pelsis we work collaboratively and foster inclusivity, and we encourage everyone to do so at all times.
An inclusive culture is the bedrock for a diverse workforce which in turn drives high performance and a positive working environment. There are many studies that show that companies with diverse, in every way, not just gender, employees outperform non-diverse organisations.
Pelsis has an inclusive culture – which we should never take for granted - underpinned by our value ‘One Team’, that creates the right environment for all to succeed. We must acknowledge and thank the people who ‘Inspire Inclusion’ and pave the way, act as mentor and sponsors, fight unconscious bias and ‘roll the pitch’ to enable everyone – including women – to reach their full potential and succeed.

This year's theme of #inspireinclusion is particularly important to me. Diverse perspectives bring innovative approaches to problem-solving. In the medical sector it is not only a matter of ethics, but also an imperative for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
I am inspired by the women who pioneered innovation in STEM. Often overlooked, these are just a few:
- Shirley Ann Jackson, the first black woman to earn a doctorate from MIT, whose discoveries allowed caller ID, fiber optics and portable fax to be possible.
- Asima Chatterjee, the first woman to earn a doctorate in science from an Indian University, who discovered treatments for Malaria and epilepsy.
-Grace Hopper "Amazing Grace", the first recipient of a National (US) medal of technology, who worked on one of the earliest computers and developed the world's first compiler.
-Olga González-Sanabria, a NASA scientist who invented nickel-hydrogen batteries. These now power the International Space Station.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion, highlighting that “. . . when women are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.”
Evidence shows that companies with diverse workforces can unlock the benefits of diversity by fostering inclusion. When everyone feels a sense of belonging, they can contribute more around the table, leading to a stronger workplace culture and better business outcomes.
