The idea of a 'trade mechanism' in the EuroLeague caught some attention lately. While there is no meaningful upside for EuroLeague Players Association (ELPA) to agree on 'trades' in EuroLeague, it should be added that in order to (in theory) create such a mechanism, this brings some unavoidable legal questions. Nearly impossible 'transfer' of player contracts cross-borders & cross-domestic leagues prevents the option of having such system in the first place. Player contracts would have to be terminated first and then (re)signed with a new team under the same conditions. This basically takes away the option of changing teams being a 'trade,' such as we know in the NBA. But, if we are talking about terminating player contracts and then signing with the new team - we actually already see that now, during the EuroLeague transfer window.
