In a career, many people will have a positive impact, but very few will rise to the top of the pyramid. Through their intelligence, open-mindedness, analytical skills, and extraordinary commitment, these people will leave a lasting impression on you and continue to influence you long after your collaboration has ended. For me, that's exactly what Jon Landau represents. Needless to say, the news of his passing saddened me greatly.
His quick thinking in meetings, his ability to analyze, quickly understand a problem and find a solution was exceptional. For someone who was producing the biggest film in history, his availability was unmatched. We could call him at any time, he was always available to answer our questions or help us convince Fox to let us promote the game.
Here are 2 striking examples that demonstrate his availability:
-Jon had agreed to travel to Montreal in April 2009 to show the development team the progress of the film after telling him that this would motivate us. As a bonus, he had brought his Oscar for Titanic so that people could take pictures with it. In a funny moment, he left the cinema to go to the office and left me his Oscar, which sat on my desk for the rest of the day.
-Jon spent 3 days with us at E3 in June 2009 to promote the game. I'm not talking about a sporadic presence but a constant one where he presented Avatar to each group of visitors with the Oscar as a bonus, to the great delight of the visitors.
These two years of working closely with Jon were a turning point for me. I particularly learned lessons about commitment and the constant pursuit of quality.
Thank you, Jon.
