When is a traditional TWFE regression appropriate and when is a heterogeneity-robust estimator needed? #econometrics#causalinference
We apply both estimators on a staggered, continuous treatment with multiple units and time periods, estimating whether place or patient is the most important driver of regional variation in healthcare spending.
—> The results deviate substantially between the traditional TWFE and the heterogeneity-robust estimator.

I was honored to be invited to the PHDC 2023, the first Global Congress for Population, Health and Development.
It was a privilege attending very interesting topics in the healthcare sector; Health Economics and the Governance of the Healthcare Sector.

Last month, ieso EVP Impact and Corporate Development, Dr Andrew Welchman, and Deputy Service Director of CYPF, MH & LD at Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust, Morad Margoum, gave a presentation at NHS Talking Therapies Digital 2023: Expanding Access (SBK Healthcare Events).
"The economics of mental health: why waiting time and clinical effectiveness are so important" examined the findings of the recent research study published in Nature Mental Health, which Andrew and Morad co-authored with colleagues from ieso, Dorset Healthcare and York Health Economics Consortium: https://lnkd.in/ezmP5gmF.
The study, one of the largest of its kind to date, analysed anonymised data from 27,540 patients within UK NHS Talking Therapies, showing that shortening treatment and waiting times for mental health conditions to three months could reduce the financial burden on the NHS, and improve treatment outcomes and therefore quality of lives for millions of people across the UK.

Thanks to SBK Healthcare Events, for facilitating a conversation around healthcare economics with mental healthcare champions ieso.
Did you know that simply cutting waiting and treatment times from the standard 6 months to 3 months could yield a £500 saving per patient?
By designing a healthcare platform that integrates evidence-based evaluation and embraces a healthcare economic perspective, we can expand patient treatment capacity.
