It's great to work with businesses who don't just build things, or fix our infrastructure, or help organisations manage their energy. My clients make a real difference to their communities in different ways, and it reminds us that good business isn't just providing sustainable jobs and feeding families, it's being a good neighbour too. #SocialValue #BusinessWithPurpose #ItsWhyIGetUpAndGoToWork #PurposefulCommunication
Another amazing performance from the #RochdaleInBloom team, with Norden and Rochdale picking up Gold awards! It's the third year in a row that Norden village has picked up this sought-after award. H BELL AND SONS LTD have been proud sponsors of our town's beautiful efforts for years, and it's wonderful to see the team recognised at the #BritainInBloom awards. The research is clear: mixed-income housing is key to upLifting Orlando. 📊 70% of young adult Americans said that it was harder for them to afford a home than it was for their parents’ generation. In October 2021, about half of Americans (49%) said this was a major problem where they live—and this is up 10 percentage points from early 2018. Affording a home is now an American challenge; we need one another to learn how to handle this challenge best. For over a decade, Lift Orlando has been working with residents to create mixed-income housing opportunities, bringing beautiful homes to places like Pendana at West Lakes and Pendana Senior Residences. Both were created thanks to our phenomenal partner Columbia Residential. You can upLift your neighbor with Lift Orlando, too. And this is why we do what we do:
“We’ve lived here for just over three months now and it’s been amazing - a fresh, positive start for me and my family. My favourite thing is probably the kitchen area. It’s huge and easy to access everything without bumping into anyone. We also have a lot of outdoor space and eat a lot on the balcony. “ Meet Nergiz - Friary Park has been her home for almost 20 years and having moved into her new apartment with her son and daughter in March, she feels even more at home than ever. Taste of Home is a film series and recipe collection starring the communities that live and thrive on London's estates. With Peabody we've recently welcomed the first 100 families to Friary Park in Ealing Council (London Borough of Ealing), both returning estate residents and families from the Council's housing list - into their new homes. We're proud to tell their stories. Three families from Friary Park community have opened the doors of their new kitchens to us, sharing three ways they use the heart of the home for wellbeing, nourishment and community. Learn traditional recipes, passed down through generations, and see modern takes on classics. Watch this space for the full series and the recipe book!

Congrats to our friend Rocket on his Ted Talk "Vermont: The Value of Hardship" for TEDx Hartland Hill's series, The Art of Living! What a refreshing take on the inherent BENEFITS of hardship: innovation, accountability, and cooperation - these are KEY qualities of Vermont living! Here at BRIC in Springfield, we're acutely and continuously aware of the myriad of challenges that rural life presents in the face of our community development efforts. If we're being honest, the list of obstacles and setbacks we encounter day to day often feels endless - like pushing a boulder up hill (both ways!) in the snow. Anyone boots on the ground doing this type of work knows it's not for the faint of heart, and in fact we often joke that you have to be a certain sort of glutton for punishment in order to ever actually make any progress. We know what we're doing is difficult, and that we're pushing against the odds with the things we're trying to accomplish - and somehow this awareness actually BOLSTERS our determination. The spirit of resilience and ingenuity is STRONG in Vermont. It's an inherent part of our identity. Whether it's snowstorms, early frosts, catastrophic flooding, workforce and housing shortages, food insecurity, busted leaking pipes - whatever the hurdle, Vermonters SHOW UP. We imagine possibilities, we work together, and we GET SHIT DONE. In spite of the challenges, there's nowhere we'd rather be! We believe in the power of our communities, we root for the underdog, and we WILL prevail. Thanks for the food for thought, Rocket! And for all that you're doing to help affect positive change here in Vermont! Salem Mayor Chris Hoy renewed the City of Salem's pledge to a 10-minute-walk-to-park goal at Monday night's Salem City Council meeting. Today, the Mayor, Council President Virginia Stapleton, Councilors Micki Varney and Trevor Phillips, and Salem Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chair Dylan McDowell walked with fifth-grade students from Liberty Elementary to Wendy Kroger Park. Parks and green spaces give us places to gather, they boost our health and give us protected places with trees that help buffer the impacts of climate change. Salem joins the Trust for Public Lands and its 10-Minute Walk initiative to build quality parks close to home and eliminate the park equity gap. We know that despite the wide-ranging benefits of community green spaces, more than 100 million Americans, including 28 million children, still lack access to a park within 10 minutes from their homes. While we’re doing better in Salem, we know that 51% of Salem residents don’t have easy park access As a City, we’re making more City investments to undo what has been inequity of investment in our parks. Through the 2022 Salem bond, you’ll see the sidewalks and bike paths connecting people to our parks. #WalkToAParkDay

The Twin Rivers development had 218 units of affordable housing. How many units of affordable housing will be available in Mirasol Village? How do the rents compare for the affordable housing units? It seems with the growth in homelessness the criteria for success at Mirasol should be a growth in affordable units that at least equals the growth in homelessness in the community--based on the homeless count that growth is over 40%.
In case you missed it, Mirasol Village was recognized by the Sacramento Business Journal as a Best Real Estate Project of the Year in the Community Impact category. SHRA Executive Director La Shelle Dozier accepted the award on behalf of the Agency along side project partners including McCormack Baron Salazar. During her acceptance remarks La Shelle highlighted the catalytic impact Mirasol Village has on the River District and how it is changing lives of residents.

October is #NationalCommunityPlanningMonth! 🎉 As a firm that puts #communityengagement at the forefront of our projects, we want to celebrate the importance of planners and residents working in harmony to shape vibrant, resilient communities. 🤝 Planning is much more than just maps and zoning. It's the compass that guides us toward better neighborhoods, #sustainabledevelopment, and an enriched quality of life. From designing walkable streets to fostering #greenspaces and #affordablehousing, planners are instrumental in creating the foundations of thriving communities. They bring people together to envision and build the future, emphasizing equitable, inclusive, and environmentally-conscious practices that make great communities. 🏬🏡 Learn more about #NCPM from the American Planning Association: https://lnkd.in/eRyDvwj #communityplanning #placemaking #urbandesign #sustainability #inclusiveplanning #cityplanning #urbanplanning #njplanners #njplanningfirm

well worth a look
We've just completed year one of our five-year 21st Century Community Halls project and boy has it been a busy one! So far 38 of our 80 member halls have been visited for a face-to-face audit with many more lined up for visits in early 2024. Over the next four years, we will also be reaching out to volunteers who run rural halls not in our network to better understand their needs and engage them in this project. So what is a '21st Century Community Hall' - find out by looking at our video with great examples from across the county. Want to find out more? We're running a 21st Century Community Halls Conference on Thursday 25th January 2024. This will provide a fantastic opportunity for village halls and community buildings to network with and share issues/solutions with other trustees and individuals who run halls from across Berkshire. In the afternoon we will be looking at how our community buildings can proactively work towards a low-carbon future. Learn how to calculate both financial and carbon savings by making environmental improvements/changes.
