Just yesterday, I noticed this sad little bird on my screen and it immediately grabbed my attention. Usually we receive reminders in the form of notifications and emails which personally I find frustrating at times but what Duolingo has done is amazing. I had left my Italian language lesson midway but upon seeing this app's icon on my screen, I opened the app and resumed my lesson from where I left off. The Product design and the marketing team deserve a pat on the back. #duolingo #appupdate #applaunch #appcommunity #appreciationpost

Duolingo is great. Just don't use it to describe your totally unrelated product. When launching a new product, it can be tempting to reference an existing app or tool people love. Think: - Tinder for jobs - Spotify for meditation - Uber for laundry services My problem with this is that new brands typically refer to one feature or benefit of the existing product. Yet, it's hard for users to know exactly which one you're referring to. For example, 'Duolingo for therapy'. Because it's an app? Because it uses characters to help you learn? Because it's a daily challenge? It's not clear to me what about it is similar to Duolingo. Leaving the audience confused about your offer. (Note: this doesn't mean these ads won't work. There is a secondary effect when name-dropping a well-known brand/using their logo— intrigue and clicks.)

We all talk about our Spotify or Duolingo Wrapped Because they are cool, right? We share, compare, reflect, and celebrate our 2023 achievements. Honestly, I would be happy to get a Wrap from my bank, running app, or even from my supermarket! (Hey ING Nederland, Nike, Albert Heijn 😉) Because why not? Companies have so much data about us, so why not do some creative stuff around it? From a user perspective, a Wrap is an incredible way to foster loyalty, increase engagement, and retention. Why? ✨ Because it’s fun! We all love stats and personalized insights about ourselves. What’s my favorite artist? Song? We are waiting for the end of the year just for that! ✨ It’s a celebration of our accomplishments. Thanks, Duolingo, for celebrating my efforts! Top 2% of learners? Might be proud of myself 🫶🏼 ✨ It makes me reflect on my year, take some time to think about my habits. ✨It brings back memories and creates an emotional connection with a product. Nostalgia is a strong feeling! ✨ Wraps are delightful! They are full of surprises and unexpected insights. ✨ It's great way to create a buzz around the brand and attract customers. I am a big fan 🌟 And you? What is your favorite stat this year?

You know why people keep coming back to Duolingo? I mean aside from the cute (and occasionally a bit scary) bird… Push notifications. You have always had the ability to send push notifications from the BravoShop dashboard. The settings were… simple. Image, title, body. Back in May of last year, we added the option to send targeted push notifications. Only notify customers who have viewed a specific product? Or notify customers who haven’t used the app in a while? Done and done. All based on feedback from customers. As always. 🚀

The 80's was the best decade for music - ever. 🎶 It was also a great time to grow up. Generally speaking, the motto was - just start doing it, you will figure it out as you go. And don’t tell me what to do. I will learn by doing. Let’s just start. It is interesting that in today's rapidly changing world, where by and large you can no longer plan or predict your way to success, the 80s approach still works. Change is the only constant in our environment. This is true whether you are a student, a solopreneur, an employee, a coach or a CEO. More often than not, the best way forward is to just start. I met with a team member today who is curious about becoming a scrum master. He is actually serving in the role to see if he likes it on one of the teams I coach. He has had some basic introductory agile foundations training, but he wasn't sure what to do next. He wanted to know what training he should take. There isn't anything wrong with this question, but I asked him what he was hoping to learn in a class that he couldn't learn by doing. This is where a flexible L&D offering really helps those who want to learn in the flow of work. The ability to go back at any time on any device and learn is super helpful for those who are all about just starting. In other words, take action now. Learn as you go, in the flow of work. 🌟 From Idea to Reality in 48 Hours: My Journey in the Flutter Flow Imagine Contest! 🌟 Here’s a short story of how i was part of the winners of a contest with an app i made in just 2 days As a passionate designer and developer, I've always been captivated by the fusion of design and technology, and this contest presented the perfect opportunity to showcase my skills and push the boundaries of imposter syndrome The challenge was clear: reimagine an existing app with a unique user flow using Flutter Flow Throughout the contest, I explored the limitless possibilities of Flutter Flow, a no-code platform that empowers creators to bring their app visions to life without traditional coding barriers. From conceptualizing the idea to crafting the user flow, every step was filled with creativity and excitement. The journey wasn't just about building an app; it was about pushing boundaries, experimenting with new concepts, and unleashing innovation. Inspired by my love for music and design i chose transforming Spotify into something extraordinary. By adding a karaoke section to Spotify to add a spice to your daily music binging "Invasive" came to life. From wireframes to prototypes, every detail mattered, every interaction Mind you i had a month to make this app but i was initially confused about the rules 😂 it was 2 days to submission that i texted a friend and he explained everything to me so i had to scrap my initial app and pick my most used phone app which was Spotify it’s crazy how much can be done in 48 hours without sleep and on the submission day i didn’t want to submit because i felt it wasn’t good enough and i couldn’t win. But i looked at it like its done what’s the worse that can happen and to my surprise people fell in love with the Karaoke feature and ended up getting 2nd place 🎉 I'm immensely proud of what I've achieved in such a short span of time, but the real reward lies in the journey itself—the moments of inspiration, the challenges overcome, and the lessons learned along the way. Who else noticed Duo feeling all the feelings this week?
