Previously, I showcased a superhero/villain system that is WIP on it, so I decided to add a spicy visual look to it and some nice improvements. That is a small reminder for those who didn't see the release of the Optimization Debug Tool that I released a couple of days ago. I'm working on a cinematic trailer and thought to learn some VFX using EmberGen. This great app gives the option to export Flipbooks or VDB files and import them into Unreal. I used the new VDB option in 5.3 that works with a plugin created not officially for previous versions of Unreal 5. Let me introduce one of my student's works that he did in less than three months! In my Unreal Engine course, I'm teaching how to develop games from scratch, and my student David B. created a Star Wars race game  working in multiplayer and up to 4 players. The game involves multiple systems, like laps creation, progress tracking, damage system, pickable items, and more. I want to share another system-based CSV and data table that I created. This time, this is a randomization system that gives the developer the option to have multiple custom characters in seconds! The idea behind this is to create multiple options of multiple custom character classes like villagers, citizens, enemies, military, etc. The system uses as an example a based-level system where every part of the character's body has a different level, for example, armor for the chest, hands, legs, and head where every part can be lighter or heavier, and that's what increases or decreases the level of the NPC at the end. Why do I need to save the randomization process to a data table? The answer is that I don't want the custom character to be random every time the player enters the game. The idea is to give the player the feeling that he comes to a place where he has been there before with the same people with whom he can interact and not random mannequin NPCs. #devlog #ue5 #unrealengine #npc #randomization #customization #gamedesign #gamedev #indiedev #indiegamedev
