For the most stressful medical job in 2022, the highest percentages of burnout occurred among six physician specialties. They are: Emergency medicine: 62%. Hospital medicine: 59%. Family medicine: 58%. Pediatrics: 55%. Obstetrics and gynecology: 54%. Internal medicine: 52%. Meanwhile, just 52% of pediatrician respondents reported feeling valued by their organization. Sadly this trend is only getting exacerbated in 2023. If you do not have a game plan to battle burn out as a physician please start to draft one! While searching for a valid, reliable, and effective core training for children in evidence-based practice, I came across this program. I noticed a number of recent studies using it as a core training program for children with special needs. How much is this applicable in our clinical practice? To apply this accurately, the child needs to have adequate body awareness and muscle-mind connection. These are mostly affected in children in our practice. Undoubtedly, developing a core training program for paediatrics population is not an easy task. The necessity of developing specific therapeutic training program for each patient is still a key. What do we need? In my opinion, we need effective tools to help us achieve therapeutic goals efficiently. #physiotherapy #pediatricphysicaltherapy #grossmotorskills

Slowly coming off the euphoria that was the 8th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery 2023. To be amongst thousands of colleagues, mentors, mentees and friends that have impacted your life’s trajectory is truly a once in a lifetime experience. It honestly felt like a big family reunion! Outside of the phenomenally organized sessions of the conference, were the new networks, collaborations and friendships formed outside of the conference halls. The marvel of it all is that we were all united in improving the pediatric cardiac care of our vulnerable patient population throughout the world. Personally, it was exciting for me to re-connect with the pediatric cardiac team from Ghana. (Full disclosure: I’m the daughter of immigrants from Ghana). With close to 34 million people in Ghana, there is only one trained, board certified pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Nana-Akyaa Yao. To even start to talk about the heart wrenching details of those children suffering from congenital and acquired heart disease would bring the strongest amongst us to tears. As we move forward in life status post #WCPCCS2023, we should not forget that 9 out of 10 children do not have access to pediatric cardiac care and surgery. Many of these children are in countries like Ghana. In this day and age, these stats should not be acceptable to anyone. If anything, #WCPCCS2023 relit that fire under me that there is more we can and should be doing. If we don’t, who will?
