🌍 Delivering culturally sensitive care in today's diverse world is more critical than ever. Healthcare professionals who work abroad often demonstrate heightened sensitivity and a more culturally adapted approach to care. My experiences working in various and diverse countries have highlighted the complex relation between culture and well-being. 🇬🇧 One memorable instance involved caring for a #Muslim patient while working in the #UnitedKingdom, where I learned firsthand about post-mortem rituals. Participating in the #ritual not only taught me the how but, more importantly, the why behind each step. It became evident that such cultural understanding was pivotal in aiding the family's acceptance of their loss and facilitating a healthy mourning process. 🇰🇪 Similarly, my time in Tigoni Level 4 Hospital in #Kenya revealed the lengths deprived communities go to honor their deceased. Witnessing families walk miles to provide a dignified #burial underscored the significant impact of addressing cultural needs beyond traditional healthcare boundaries. On one occasion, I personally arranged a taxi to transport a deceased individual back to their community. The expression on the family's faces made it clear that, in their eyes, this act was the most meaningful 'treatment' their loved one could receive. Unfortunately, I encountered a reality where patients often do not seek healthcare assistance due to the fear of being unable to return home for a dignified burial. ✨ These diverse encounters underscore the importance of embracing a person's background and belief system. Rather than making assumptions, a question-oriented, conversation-centered approach allows for more personalized care, considering potential cultural differences. Development and evaluation of a kangaroo mother care implementation model in South Ethiopia

We’re helping to save children’s precious sight... 💛💛 As the season of giving is now upon us, we’re proud to share with you today two incredible projects we’re supporting through the L’OCCITANE Foundation... 💛 Malaysia and Vietnam both rank at the bottom of the human development indices, and with large percentages of both populations living rurally, access to eye care services is insufficient and inequitable.  That’s why we’re supporting the Brien Holden Foundation in reducing avoidable blindness among children in disadvantaged communities – by helping to provide vision screenings, advocating for children’s health and improving knowledge of eye care in both countries. Our aim for this project? To reach just over 83,000 children with the care and attention they need.  💛 India has the largest number of people suffering from visual impairment and blindness in the world, with around 70% of those causes being completely treatable. We’re supporting CBM Italia Onlus and its project which aims to prevent blindness in vulnerable children across the state of Andhra Pradesh. The project will specifically target girls and children with disabilities in rural areas, ensuring they receive the vital eye screenings and high quality paediatric ophthalmological care they need.  #LOCCITANEFoundation #ethicalbusiness #BrienHoldenFoundation #CBMItaliaOnlus

The scope of dental disease can require additional interventional care, much of which relies on access to quality anesthesia. Solutions discussed include, but are not limited to, freestanding dental ASCs, in office anesthesia via a licensed anesthesia provider, a better inclusion of dentists in the larger health picture of a community, and, as always, public policy advocacy. We recently completed a training session in Lviv, Ukraine 🇺🇦 on mobility and adaptations for daily living. The training brought together 24 rehabilitation specialists from 10 partner healthcare facilities in Lviv, Volyn, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. Under the expert guidance of Cécile Dupré, a rehabilitation advisor for Momentum Wheels for Humanity, the participants had hands-on exercises focusing on patient mobility, utilizing bathroom facilities effectively, and how to create personalized tools for better limb positioning. The training also highlighted the importance of adapting homes, workplaces, and vehicles to ensure greater independence and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. This platform allowed the rehabilitation specialists to share knowledge and experiences, leading to fruitful discussions on techniques and modifications that can significantly enhance patients' daily lives. Bogdana Semenyuk from Kolomyia Central District Hospital (Ivano-Frankivsk Region), was thrilled with the training, emphasizing the practical techniques and wealth of information shared during the sessions. According to Bogdana, this kind of training is crucial as it not only ensures patient safety but also supports caregivers, especially family members who often play a primary role in patient care. The insights gained from this training will make a huge difference for her patients and their families. Ultrasound technology has emerged as a crucial tool in improving maternal and infant healthcare, globally. In countries like India where access to advanced medical facilities is limited, imaging modalities such as Ultrasound can help leverage the power of 'network of midwives' through ASHA & ANGANWADI, for providing last mile care to expectant mothers and ensure safer pregnancies through faster & better diagnosis. Over 800 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy & childbirth. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) estimated 12.7 maternal deaths per 1,000 live births, in 2017. Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in India was last reported at 97 per lakh live births in 2015-2017, as per WHO. https://lnkd.in/du4aTZAd Innovations such as #PhilipsCompact #PhilipsLumify can further accelerate access to ultrasound technology through ease of portability and power of #AI and thus help serve even the most remote and underserved areas in India.
