"Healthcare urgently needs a new Moore's law" Earlier this week, Roche's Executive Board visited NVIDIA's Headquarters in Santa Clara. I cannot think of a more inspirational day in my career than witnessing Jensen Huang discuss the potential of accelerated computing for Healthcare and Life Science with Thomas Schinecker, Aviv Regev, Teresa Harris Graham, Matt Sause and Roche's wider top management. Some core insights: -Over the last decades, developing drugs has become harder, more expensive (billions per drug), and time-consuming (well over a decade) -Accelerated computing can drastically improve drug development and medical diagnosis by revolutionizing core workflows in areas such as molecule discovery, tissue analysis, or genome sequencing -We need to merge domain-specific expertise, bridge terminology, and work across disciplines to ensure that patients are served faster, better, and cheaper We at NVIDIA are very excited about deepening our collaboration with Roche and Genentech on "Doing now what patients need next". "Over the last decades, developing drugs has become harder..." Therefore the very basic understanding of biological networks and how they interact will be one of the big focal points in upcoming years in the AI space. Predicting clinical outcomes in the future will be boosted dramatically with increasing amounts of connected and trusted data guided by the FAIR data principles. Let's ensure meticulous stewardship of our valuable data! #fairdata #AI #drugdevelopment #datastrategy
We still didn't see any AI-accelerated drug yet, it doesn't seem within reach of current technology. Computing power isn't the bottleneck
And then there is phase III and real biology of real patients.
We have identified a Moore's Law for healthcare. I had the privilege to work with the magnificent Gordon Moore at Intel Corporation When Gordon published his seminal paper in 1965 he had just four data points. We will be sharing a new Moore's Law for healthcare at the 4th UNGA Digital Health symposium in New York in September at Northwell Health and Fordham University with over 40 data points. Stay tuned! Love this! We have such an amazing opportunity to bring together the strengths of the Biotech/Pharma/Healthcare and Tech/AI industries to create a step change in health with greater speed and lower cost - Imagine the benefit the human-machine partnership and ‘Healthcare Moore’s Law’ can have on society - Its our moment to create this shift from BioTech to TechBio and make this happen!
I'm fully onboard with your views, Constantin Landers. This is exactly what we at Alithea Bio experienced two weeks ago at the very same spot, NVIDIA's headquarters, under the fantastic guidance of Renee Y.. Our joint vision is to disrupt how we treat patients with #immunotherapy based on big data (from Alithea's unique dataset) and Nvidia's AI power. We are pleased to see that giants like Roche and Genentech share the vision. In the startup world, speed and innovation are our advantages! 🚀
NVIDIA should reach out and work with the Mayo Clinic, Sanford Health, Cleveland Clinic, and other healthcare delivery systems . . . that’s where the proverbial “rubber meets the road” in healthcare.
This really caught my eye, wondering what is Pharma doing at Nvidia, but quickly connected the dots that the right AI and Computing expertise can definitely help in speed to market with drug discovery and also spot on with the terminologies and the taxonomy. This can significantly impact Pharma performance and the market expectations.
The healthcare industry's future is now upon us. This news and collaboration are truly remarkable.

1wPharma is not healthcare. And pharma business model is built on finding blockbusters, just like VCs' relentless seek for unicorns. This model is doomed to fail due to ´reverse Moore ´s law' (it even has a name Eroom). Like unicorns blockbusters are getting rarer and rarer. Hey Jensen, Thomas, Aviv, Teresa note my tip: A new business model will emerge in the next decade it will be focused on the long tail. Thus spoke the healthcare innovator :)
